Anyone in here do one? Im THINKING about swapping in my built 6L and run a T56 since my 87 is already a 3 speed manual. What I would really like to know (see pics) where the shifter ends up. I do NOT want to go with bucket seats. I want to keep my original, beat, ripped up seat.

theres 2 shifter locations on a t-56, theirs the tailshaft mount, then theres a Place in the actually trans case to relocate it to. Also you could get an offset shifter plate to move the arm attachment forward, then get an S arm shifter to wrap it up around the seat. By doing those 2 things, it should clear your bench.

depending on your setup and which way you want to go, Lt1 is gonna be an external fork design, like the older setups, but its hydrolic, not mechanical. Now the ls1 versions were the internal slave/release design, this is my preffered setup.

Either way youde be better going hydrolic, im sure theirs a conversion for the lt1 bellhousng but you be better off with hydrolic IMO.

Now performance addons for the t56. The viper t-56 output shaft and tail housing( if you go this route, speedometers are a bitch to hookup, but the streangth is greatly stronger). You would also need the matching Driveshaft Yoke.

This may help with your question. I remember seeing this when someone was trying to swap an LS2/T56 into an RX8.

In that thread it mentions wiring the reverse lockout somehow. When I swapped it in my Camaro, I just wired it to the brake light switch. Very simple and works fine.

I have an 87 swb and I am in the middle of my project it's a Iron block built 5.7 ls motor with T56 tranny the shifter is around 10" or so farther back I was going buckets so I never mocked up my bench but I'm pretty sure it won't work without modifying something
