Welcome Aboard GMSB. I like the way you bump a thread. Pics always wake a thread up.

Nice set up too. And Z bar manual clutch likage. I assume that was an Auto Truck converted to manual? I believe 83 up was OE Hydro clutch. I was going to go Z bar too, but have since been talked into Hydro for a 4x4 and it makes sense, but I do prefer Z bar.

Maybe 3/4 Ton kept the manual Z bar likage and only 1/2 ton got the Hydro. We'll have to get with our favorite dragster, Retro and see if he can say for sure. I thought he said 82 down was Z bar, and 83 up was Hydro. Again, that just might be for 1/2 ton.

might be that this was a pretty bare bones truck, rubber floor and AM radio. dunno if there was an option to make it even cheaper.

1973-84 was Z bar regardless of series; 1985-1991 was Hydro regardless of series. According to the parts manuals.

That's very cool. I'd love to do that to a 4x4 Squarebody. No worries of carb failures, running out of gas, or flooding on steep angles or side angles with that set up. :waytogo:

For what few pics you posted, looks like it was a neat and tidy job.

So are you using a 2002 on down or a 2003 and up drive by wire throttle pedal?

Im also looking at starting a 5.3 swap into my 77 K20. Its a 4 speed manual truck, I noticed the talk about the 85 and up hydraulic clutch in this thread...how hard would it be to convert mine to hydraulic? sounds like it could possibly be a bolt on? excuse the ignorance but all my previous chevys were autos, i have worked on plenty of manual trans setups just not much experince with the particulars of these square bodies...

also was there more than 1 4 speed manual used in a 77 K20? any ideas on what mine might have in it?

Some have said it's actually 82 and up that came hydro, and I've also see that it's 83 & up, so you could get the parts from earlier models than 85. IIRC, the hydro clutch pedals are different too. I was hoping it was just the rod length, but I have a feeling it has to do with the support strut rods for the hydro master cylinder so the firewall doesn't flex or get weak and give way. Ferds were notorious for that problem.

Thanks! Im fly by cable. I like to control my pedal not let the computer lol. Previously i had the lq4 6.0 but converted it to carb. I used a holley truck avenger carb but still had issues so i went with a stock motor with fuel injection. Ive learned dependable is much more important then hp. Lol
As far as i know gm only offered 2 manual trans in the trucks. They are both the same minus the fact on is 4wheel drive and one is two wheel drive.

As far as manual available, are you talking late model or 90's or what? There's actually at least 4 in the 90's 2 models and both in 2 or 4wd. NV3500 and NV4500. NV4500 had the Granny Low and OD for the heavier duty 3/4 and 1 tons. The 1/2 and light duty 6 lug 3/4 tons got the NV3500. And technically depending on the year model, there was also the Get Rags. But then GM went to NV's, aka New Venture. They actually got in bed with each other, or one swallowed up the other, however that worked. I think NV acquired GetRag is what happened. Not positive, but if you go looking, be sure you KNOW what you're getting because they look very very similar on the outside, but many of the internals are NOT interchangeable, while some of the internals are.

Well, there were 2 other, actually 3 other transmission options as far as manuals in Squarebodies. There were 2 different 3 speeds, for 3 on the column models, and then there was the 4 speed OD A833 which was rare and shouldn't have been.
