You guys are lucky, they really got us by the balls up here. I wish I had the money to slap on some headers and duals with dual cats....

lol I am not even going with any headers, just the stock manifolds for now, Otherwise I will have to lengthen the fron O2 sensor harnesses to go past the collectors. And I have already done enough wiring right now lol.

I've got true duals with 2 flowmaster 40 series mufflers and LOVE the sound. In a minute I'll throw up the link of my vid I made of it but I love the sound. Glass packs are annoying to me and don't sound good. The turbo muffler/dynomax set up would sound pretty good as well but I like it a little bit louder than that myself but that's just due to personal preference more than anything.

Here you go brother....

Here's the vid. The exhaust is true duals (no cats) from Dynamax headers into Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers. It does have tips on it but that makes very little difference when it comes to sound

I talked to the Exaust place today and got a price on new Dual exaust. Having troubles deciding what to do.

Dual with glass packs $250.00 installed
Dual with Turbo mufflers $300.00 Installed
Dual with Flowmaster $350.00 Installed

Now I have ALWAYS been a turbo muffler kind of guy, with that said I am thinking about making this truck a little more notecable (NOT excessively loud). I not real sure what to think about the glass pack idea, I did have flowmasters on my 94 Z28 and honestly after a week I HATED it.

What is everyones opinion on these 3 setups or better yet throw some new ideas at me. Only 1 stipulation NO TIPS

What size pipe you going to use? pipe size changes the tone. And with glass packs the shorter the glass pack the louder it will be. My brother had a 78 C10 with a 350 and 2 1/2 dual pipe with 8 inch glass packs. The truck was loud as hell. Always got pulled over for it.. Had a cop put a db reader on it it was idleing at 73 and wa at like 90 something at 3000 rpm

^^truth.....if you get a longer glass pack it'll mellow out the tone considerable and this goes for "regular" mufflers as well as a general rule. The longer the muffler body the more mellow the tone will be.

My truck has 2" duals with 18" glasspacks and it's not really loud but it is rackety. I tried the water trick to blow out the pack to make it a little louder but it didn't work. After I get the t-case yoke today I'll see if I can get some video of how it sounds. But I'm wanting to go with 2.5" pipes with cutouts right behind the headers, and probably a pair of free flow mufflers after the engine swap, anything but "fro-masters". Maybe a pair of turbo tube mufflers (unbaffled). Anything that doesn't sound like a feather pillow.

I'd found out what series flowmasters are they offering for that price. You may have the option to go with the 50 Series that you may like better. Or maybe they'd let you buy some Magnaflows and just have them install them?

Flowmasters are a waste of Money IMHO, you loose quite a bit of low end torque, compared to a turbo or straight through muffler. I would recommend a staright through muffler, with pipe no larger than 2 1/4, 2" if you have a 305. And the length of the muffler will determin how loud it is. I personally prefer 2' pipe for duals on 350`s on down...but I like low end torque and economy.

My crate is not a torque monster to begin with (as is the case with most motors) so any decrease of TQ taken by the Flowmasters will be minimal and most likely barely noticeable if noticeable at all

Yeah, But I always assume that someone is working with a stock engine. Wing plates and swirly gigs inside mufflers are just different marketing strategies IMO, they each make a signature sound, and dont really "Suck" exhaust gasses out of the engine....I think a tailpipe outlet mounted in the rear center section, where all the dirt suck occurs, would have more of a sucking effect than flowmaster claims happens in their mufflers. All these baffle plates/wing plates, vortex generators, airfoils, are just more Drag for the exhaust gasses to endure, which means any scavenging effects you may see otherwise from a good set of headers, is pretty much lost. Put yourself in the Exhaust gasses place. If your hauling ass at 100+ mph in your truck, and you had another truck with no brakes right on your ass(next exhaust pulse), and you ad the choice to go around a giant log splitter blade, or through a straight tunnel, where would you go?

Only thing I can contribute, is whatever you do, don't remove the brace from the transfer case to the engine. It is right in the way for dual exhaust to go between the frame and tranny, etc.. But guy I knew who did that ended up cracking the case on his tranny due to the twist the engine put on it..

O77 your truck sounds really good, BUT when your at cruise speed (2200-2500RPM) what is the tone like? That is the part that give me the head aches.

As for pipe size ide say more then likely I am going to go with 2.25" since that is what is recommended for the Vortec 5.7.

I know there is a difference in sound from a fuel injected exhaust as compared to a carbeurated exhaust system.

If I go with Glass packs then more then likely I am going to be looking at somewhere inbetween 18-24" packs, HOPEFULLY that wont be excessivly loud.

As for the torque bar being the cause for busted Transfer cases. WELLLLLL that is kind of iffy in my opinion, USUALLY there are 2 main causes for this poor oiling system (low fluid or broken pump), also is pure abuse, rocking back and fourth forwards and backwards.

C4 Ide love to hear a clip of your truck.
