Ive bought another K30 and when I was looking at it I noticed it has a np208 in it? I have never seen one that didn't have a 205 i it, it looks factory to me. The truck is a 6.2 diesel, 400 turbo, 208, Dana 60, 14 bolt, it appears to be an exmilitaty truck if that matters. Just going to use it for a parts truck.
Thank Mark

Most military trucks got the 208 case for some reason. I think the model that came with a 205 also received a limited slip in the front axle.

From what I understand, the only 205 equipped CUCVs we’re out of necessity for the PTO. I think it was to run a generator.

At some point, I believe '81+ but not sure, all civilian 1 pc rear driveshaft 1 tons got 208's and only the 2 pc driveshaft trucks (c&c or crew cabs) still got 205's. I could be wrong on the year, it might be '85+ as there were significant changes with respect to t-cases, adapters and crossmembers.

Only M1031/K30 and M1028/K30 CUCV trucks had the NP205. The M1008/K30 and the M1009/K5 Blazer came stock with the NP208.

I thought the civilian 1-piece shaft trucks got a 205 as well? Starting in '80, there was the slip yoke version of the 205 too.

Thanks guys, it is just odd to me to see n that didn't have a 205. I wonder what the reason was to go to the 208 in the military version?

M1028 that needed PTO we’re equipped with np205. My m1028 that was a pickup came with a np208

The reason why cucv trucks came with np208 was so they were all the same and they could be replaced out in the field. Same reason why the m1009 blazers had turbo 400s

Did any of those trucks come with anything other than a 400 turbo? In the 3/4 ton trucks the 700r4 and 208 combo was very popular and was wondering if they ever did that in the military version?

From everything I’ve read, they all had the 400.

I was just wondering about that, I have never seen any that weren't 400t or sm465. On the 91 with a 4l80e what did they have for a case?

They used the 205 as well. It's a one-year-only trans to t-case adapter. I love a manual trans truck, but it's always disappointing when I see a '91 crew cab with a 465, lol.
