Is anyone having any luck buying a vehicle from Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace right now?

I miss snagging up the Autotrader at the gas station. I could spend hours sifting through those things.

I pick up cheap cars that need work etc every so often, repair them and list them on FB Marketplace and every damn time I tell myself I cannot stand to sell stuff on there and I'm not going to do it anymore. I complain to my wife that I miss craigslist and cannot stand marketplace, which is the only reason I have FB anyway. It is a difficult task to even search through marketplace and get relevant listings for that matter.

That Facebook marketplace is a joke. You can try to sell something for ten bucks and some clown will call you up and want you to come clear across town and meet them and then offer you $5.

I tried buying a parts truck 86 c10 a couple weeks ago off of market place, called and texted the guy. Finally got back to me like a week later, saying that truck had been sold for a while. I told him "then take you ad down".

Did buy a front clip a week ago off a guy on marketplace, that worked out well. Guy was nice, drove it all the way to my house free of charge.

My latest purchase on FB marketplace was my 79. The daughter was listing it for her dad (he was an old guy). Decent communication. Paid 2800.

Now I have things listed on fb marketplace and Craigslist that I'm perpetually getting jacked around on.
My 24" lift springs and some 5 ton goodies seem to be the trigger to prompt communication, but not actually follow thru.

The only thing I've ever tried to sell on FB market place is chicken eggs. Any of you that have been following the farming thread in the members lounge know that I have bird farm. Well we sell our eggs direct to consumer, a lot of it is word of mouth, but I do have to advertise from time to time. Craigslist is a standby, but I decided to give FB marketplace a try. No selling eggs falls under selling animals and is prohibited. Right there I was done. Don't want me to advertise there fine, I won't look for stuff there either, which I mostly stick to. I have to admit I do check there sometimes when I'm getting desperate to find something I'm after but have never found what I needed there either.....

@SirRobyn0
W T F? Of all the stupid chit for sale on FB and you can’t sell yummy eggs?
What’s the no animals thing about? Is that some PETA sponsored c rap that Zuck supports?
PS how much for eggs?
I’m not super into finding organic or free range food. I’m kind of a garbage @ss, I’ll eat anything.
But recently the normal cheap store eggs have gotten horrible. Like can’t eat em for breakfast, bad and so anemic the yolks are almost white. Kids quit eating eggs until started buying brown eggs organic or whatever they are, far more nutritious looking and taste like an egg!

No idea why on the eggs on FB, I looked into it no further than I was rejected. Oddly FB finds it completely fine for me to advertise on local groups, just not on MP. You figure that one out.....

Ok so here is the deal. Birds are free ranged during the day, but technically I don't meet the specifications for organic because of one of the feeds is not certified. I typically charge $4 - $5 a dozen, with my longest term customers, or higher volume customers paying the lower price. For anyone on this forum that is interested I go $3.50 a dozen, I really can't sell for less than that or I'm loosing money. You'll find the eggs to have nice bright yellow yolk almost orange on some of them. Carotenoids is what colors the egg yolk, the healthier the hen, the more she gets to eat fresh plants the more the yolk will get towards orange. If your interested PM me and we'll figure out how to get them to you.

As a side note I have duck and turkey eggs during certain times of the year, ducks and turkeys are much more seasonal layers than chickens, though so it'll likely be a few months or longer before I get going with those again.

I don’t even bother with CL anymore. I do almost all my looking on Marketplace. Definitely sucks for searching because stuff gets left off and you can’t save searches. A few weeks back I bought an 01 Monte Carlo and got a pretty good deal. I usually reply to ads with a few questions about the item. If they don’t answer within a couple of days I delete the inquiry and move along.

I had a somewhat comical experience today looking at what turned out to be my latest wild goose chase. I was given the name of a guy selling a G-Body roller by a mutual friend. Was told the price, or at least what I thought was the price, in advance and arranged a time to meet this morning to look it over and work out a deal.

I showed up with exactly the price I was told in hand and in cash. After looking a over the car with my buddy and the seller, I told the kid that I would take it and offered the money that I thought was the asking price. He looked at me, almost stunned, and declined it.

Now I don't know where the wires got crossed with what the supposed asking price was, but I wouldn't have wasted my time going to the bank, pulling cash, and driving 45 min each way if I would have known.

Anyway, this is just the latest failure in my attempts to buy a project car. No hard feelings toward the kid. But, it just reminds me that my search just isn't meant to be right now.

It is actually funny at this point. I couldn't describe it any better. In fact, I brought my father with me today and we were actually laughing at how ridiculous the entire experience was this morning. Here's a guy who is almost 80 and has been buying and selling stuff since the late '50's and he is just shaking his head.

Everyone you encounter is a dealer, flipper, watched Mecum last night, or whatever the latest angle is. All I know is that after nearly a year of looking, the cash is going back in the bank and I'm going to take up another hobby for a while. I'm not looking any more. It's just not worth it. I wonder what I would look like with a golf club in my hand.....LOL

I've been dabbling in salvage flips since the summer and its been wild. Normal priced and deal FB and CL finds are still there you just need to look all the time, contact right away, and hope the person gets back to you. Any one of those things dont happen and you're s.o.l.

The salvage market isnt slowing down much. Just passed up on a 2016 Challenger Scat Pack. It was a flood car with no keys and a water line up under the bottom of the door glass. Sold for almost 9k. C7 vette thats covered in mud up to almost the roof is going for almost 8 k and the auction date is over a week from now. Thats too big of a gamble for me.

I went through a number of c6 salvage rebuilds around 2019, and the prices have just been too high for me to deal with them now.
