Hey guys,
So my first upgrade for the 86 is going to be a specific bumper. I can't seem to find the name or the few pictures I've seen of them. They are, or so I think more common out west TX/CO/WY/NV area. They are chrome/stainless, and are thinner at the bed corner (like a stock bumper) then fatten up going towards where the trailer hitch would be. Usually its one pice of smooth metal and I have always called them ranch hand bumpers. They look sharp, but can't seem to find a online vendor.

Thank ahead of time.

They are a "drop center" bumper. I haven't found a good source for a stainless bumper, they all seem to be gone now.

Bucket is the man and all the good stuff is disappearing. Can't even seem to find a Moonvisor for even the newer trucks anymore. We are aging Dinosaurs with the vehicle stuff we appreciate from the past.

Remember I still got that moonvisor with your name on it. One of these days I'll finally get to meet Silvy and Paw Paw The Great.

Speaking of bumpers. I just snagged an NOS/NIB step & tow rear bumper today - for $300. Had to make a 6 hour round trip to Connecticut to get it, but it was worth the effort. Looks just like this (mine is still in the car):

That's a nice find!

Thanks - I know.

I was even hesitant to post about it, didn't want people to think I was gloating. Just wanted to give the guys hope - that even though parts are scarce, they can still be found. Sometimes on C/L, people sell stuff like this for lower than the original dealer price.

Check this one out - it's even better:

On that same trip to CT, I was supposed to go to Rhode Island to pick these up. I didn't go - due to the weather and the time. I hope to go tomorrow. Anyway, the guy is selling me a pair of NOS/NIB GMC cab corner moldings for $65!

When he told me how much he wanted, I was floored and told him he was crazy. That these regularly sell on ebay for around $1000. Guy (that's his name) said he doesn't care about ebay and couldn't be bothered.

The ones shown above are on ebay and are currently being actively bid on. The price is already $810 - with 3 days left. Granted, the ones I am getting don't come with the piece that runs across the back of the cab. But those cab back pieces don't have any paint on them and good used ones are easy to find.

Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you..

I found one of what you were talking about in a salvage yard on a seventies pickup. That was three days ago so you're in luck. It was at Cobb's Salvage in Indianola, Mississippi (6628874015). Hey, you're in the same state as me! Right on. I hope you get that bumper. It was in pretty good shape from what I could tell.

It's about two and a half hours south of Southaven. It's in the Delta basically in the middle of nowhere. I hope you can talk to someone who's willing to help you out and make a drive worthwhile. The guy I dealt with was friendly, and they only have two square bodies that I could find. I hope it's the bumper you're looking for. It was smooth like the bumper you'd see on a Blazer or a Suburban, but it was recessed in the middle and had a trailer hitch. I thought for a split second it was the bumper I was looking for mine. Anyways, I'm from here. My truck lives in Wesson about three and a half hours south of you, but unfortunately I live in New Orleans most of the year. I saw yours on the intro forum. Looks nice. Start a build thread so you and others can track your progress with it. Here's the address for Cobb's Salvage: 1857 Highway 82 W, Indianola, MS 38751, United States.

Its funny, I have a bumper on my truck that I have never seen on any other squarebody. Its smooth, recessed in the middle and inverted (top sticks out further than bottom)

I've seen a bumper like that before, but can't for the life of me recall what it was on.

This here looks alot like a Fey bumper. Usually very good quality bumpers. Of course nothing is made today like it used to be. Mr PickUp if still in bidness made real nice Drop Hitch bumpers and can be had in 6, 8, 10 and 12 in drops.

It's certainly a factory bumper, notice the outer bumper bracket holes. As nice as the FEY bumpers were, they were still no match for the OE bumpers.
