Permatex has the best spray on adhesive for headliners. I bought my foam backed material off Amazon. It was the only place I could find it
Any idea how much you used? It's $12 a can at Walmart and I'm doing a Suburban

I used 1 can for my regular cab. I would get 3 for a suburban, maybe 4. I tried to use gorilla glue adhesive spray first, but that has to be the worst spray adhesive I’ve ever used

THANK YOU! Can't beat first hand knowledge of a factory vehicle!!

Does your '81 have the "snakebite" perforated vinyl or regular pattern? I wonder if mine being a GMC has anything to do with it?

Hi,
I am not familiar with the term "snakebite perforated vinyl".
I don't really know what the difference is between snake bite and regular pattern.
I have attached a pic of the original headliner in my '81 Silverado.

I have used 3M Yellow Supertrim Adhesive very successfully for years.
It is made to glue heavy materials such as headliners, vinyl tops, and carpet.
If you use this stuff, and follow the directions, you better get it right the first time because it probably is not going to be coming off.
Even if you want to take it off!

Can't seem to attach two pictures to one post.
So here's the second picture...
This one shows the 3M part number on the can

Snakebite is kind of a diamond pattern.

EDIT- better pic of the old.

My new headliner is from Classic Industries - it is NOT correct, but it is in there and does not sag ...

Okay .. My 1985 K5 Silverado came with the Snakebite pattern ... Off White with Foam Backed Vinyl.

I am the original owner so I know exactly what came on the Blazer from the factory.... 38 years now ..

It took me two years to find it, but I did find original pattern ...

I was going to have my original headliner board recovered but it got damaged at the upholstery shop so I bought a ABS uncovered headliner from OC AutoCarpets and had it shipped to the upholstery shop to have my headliner placed on the bare ABS Plastic Headliner.

You are correct no body sells Snake Bit Pattern vinyl as replacement... the are all perforated in a diagonal pattern. you will have to purchase the Material on your own and have it installed.

I bought mine from https://www.headlinermart.com/

I spoke to Jim at 817-562-2381

Jim knew exactly what i needed.

In the picture below you will see a small strip of headliner that was under the front windshield bar and you can see how close the colors match ... The other picture has a piece of headliner that was under the sunvisor.

Also, during these years, some had colored headliners to match the primary interior colors, mine came with the upper portion off white and lower portion all blue. i.e. the A and B Pillers and top braces were all a Mystic Color.

That's amazing how close the new material is!

I think they did some unique stuff with the Blazers and Suburbans when it came to the interior trims during those years. I had an '83 Blazer and remember (I think I do anyways, it's been a while) the color scheme like you described as everything matching from the pillars up.

If you guys live in an area where it gets hot, I think you have to use the "high temp" stuff. Or the sun will bake the roof and eventually cause your glue to let go.

Also some foam or other insulation between roof and headliner board may help reduce heat wanting to unstick the headliner.

I used Sovereign Trim Stay to glue the carpet to plywood sheets that act as my headliner, it suppose to be a high temp adhesive, but didn't have a chance to test it yet in a summer heat.
