I settled on using 4 mm plywood as a base and a carpet material shown before. I used a high temperature trim glue after trying out some other adhesive on sound deadening which failed miserably in a 34 deg C heat.Carpet is rigid enough so that the plywood does not to be as wide as the whole headliner. Final touches and reassembly remains, but I'm more than happy about the results.
