The way I removed them is with a punch ..
Hammer on one side to get them tilted in the bore then with vice grips pull them out of the block ..
A few of them was so rusted that the punch broke though the wall ..

Most certainly they was going to leak in a very short time if they wasn't replaced ..
Always do a replacement when rebuilding a motor .. Save a bunch of grief down the road ..

And easy insurance for a very long time especially with the replacements being brass.

Agree on changing freeze plugs, because it’ll never be the one that’s easy to get to that starts leaking.

Always be on the back of the block or behind the motor mounts.

I've learned on my own rigs the value of the brass ones. I've replaced rotten leaking steel plugs after only 8 years.

It's the og 1954 IH, keeping all the stock gauges on line ...

Reworked the tube by adding another bend ..

This one was too short by a few inches .

Got super lucky with finding one that was dead nuts on the money ..

6 qts in the pan put the cold full level mark in the middle of the zone ..
Did just a small amount of trimming to dial in the full level ..

Got super lucky without the need to get into a huge job ..

Next to do is to add some support brackets ..
... Dipstick is done ...

Almost done with the dipstick, lower bracket worked out nice, got the upper yet to do ...

Got lucky with finding a 4-bolt main block for the 496" stroker motor build ..

Had a blown up piston ...
I kind of thought it would be junk with having the bore killed ...
(Not really junk, could sleeve the bore)

But don't see any damage done to the block ...
I'll get it gutted and washed for a better look ..
Ran the numbers, this block is the last year of the Mark IV's (1990)
Gen V went on line in 91 then in 97 the Gen VI ..

Looks like I'll be sleeving this hole ..
I'm eyeball to eyeball with a crack ..

Well, wasn't wanting to do a sleeve but dealing with cracks got no choice in the matter ..
Could install a straight sleeve but don't want to stress that hole with the amount of a press fit it needs to lock it in the bore ..
A flanged sleeve would be ideal cause it's locked in by the head and don't require much of a press fit ..

A little more work on my end to do a counterbore but will net a good fix without stressing that wounded hole ..

Took another .020" cut ( .040" from STD bore ) just to see how deep into the wall the scars go ...

I like your oil fill and dipstick next to each other like that. Convenient but also utilitarian, simple, rugged, something I could see International having done themselves.
