Frame VIN?

In previous posts I mentioned that my 76SWSB is most likely put together from several trucks. In reading other posts I saw a reference to a VIN on the frame. This would help me determine what exactly it is I have. If this in fact exists where on the frame would I find it?

according to Keith that's a p/n.

I think both he and Craig said it's on the top of the passenger side frame rail behind the cab, about where the passenger side saddle tank sits. which means you'll have to pull the bed to see it.

The VIN on the right frame rail is only a partial. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of mine when the bed was off so I can't recall what part of the VIN was there. I believe when comparing it to my full VIN it gave me the year and series (C/K 10/20/30) and part of the sequential numbers. My K30 has it near the tank, but most everyone else with a 1/2 ton has said its under the cab.

It will be the model year code, the plant code, and the sequential portion of the VIN.

Like "HF123456", where H=1987, F=Flint.

A = 1980
B = 1981
etc
