Look up the vehicle information kit (from GM heritage center) for your year, or the appropriate year brochure, that will tell you the names of the colors offered for that year. Sometimes colors changed names over the years (or Chevy to GMC), sometimes the name and color itself changed.

As far as where to get automotive paints, there are your local jobbers, some auto parts stores can mix color, UreChem, Tamco, among others. Prices will vary and quality of product will as well.

If you are doing a complete job online vendors like UreChem or Tamco are good sources, due to a lot of potential variations, for a partial or touch up it’s probably better to have a local source mix as they can better match what’s on the vehicle.

Then you have your choice of single stage urethane or go with a base clear system.
'71 Dart Swinger? You ever been out to the Mopar Nationals in Columbus, Ohio? I'm traditionally a Mopar guy, grew up with them. My first car in 1995 was a 69 Satellite, at the time my dad had a rotisserie restored 69 factory Hemi Charger, and my brother had a 71 383 Cuda. Spent my weekends in the summers from about 12 to about 18 years old as part of a pit crew with my dad and some of his friends drag racing a Super Pro 63 Plymouth Savoy with a Max Wedge... My sons and I go to the Nats every year! But now we're looking for Square Body shows too! I'm partial to old Mopars, but I have seriously always wanted a square body suburban or K-5, my grandfather drove K5s when I was a kid back in the 80s, but as far as old cars, I love them all! Any old American iron!

I also recommend Fluidfilm or NH Oil. Being a daily driver, you'll want something that isn't going to seal in moisture and cause more problems down the road. Have friends and co-workers that use Fluidfilm and NH Oil and swear by them. Fluidfilm is a once year application and the NH Oil is usually every other year type of application if done correctly.

Thank you! I definitely will plan on using Fluid Film as you said being a daily driver for the kids especially.

Nice! I have not been to the Mopar Nationals yet. My boss and his brother used to setup at the Indy swap meet. My grandfather’s first car was a 1963 Belvedere, 383 with push button torqueflite.

Here’s a couple pics of my Dart:

Oh MAN!!! That is bad ass! I had to do a double take, lol, saw the 340 pie tin, but then couldn't reconcile the single valve cover and exhaust headers, then realized it's a leaning tower of power! The tried and true one and only Slant 6! I love it! She's a beauty! That must be a rare combo, an A/C car with manual brakes! I like the period correct battery too, nice touch! I do remember and was at the Nats in Indy in the mid 90s when they were there. They were only there for about 3 years and then back to Columbus. Thanks for sharing, beautiful Dart, I love it, so jealous!

Thank you. I have not found any specific reference, but I have found a few other 71 Darts that are optioned almost identical to mine, slant six, automatic, manual brakes, power steering, A/C, rim blow wheel, ember gold interior, Y9 exterior with vinyl top.

Mine was a vinyl top, I removed it and painted the roof as it was starting to get a little ratty and keep my roof from rotting off. It was sold new in Gibson City, IL and lived in Cropsey until I got it in late 2020. Found 1 nearly complete broadcast sheet and 3 partials in the car, I have window sticker, warranty information, owners manual, original registration.

The 340 tin obviously is not correct, I was planning on having a decal made to go over it to say 225 four barrel. I think I might leave it like it is, reason is my bosses brother has/had a 1970 340 4 speed Dart, not just any, but a Mr. Norms car, unfortunately he unexpectedly passed away on his birthday a couple years ago. Between him and my boss are really the reason I’m into the Mopar stuff, and are/were my mentors if you would. So I think I’m going to leave it as is as a sort of tribute to Kevin.

My boss has two 69 Roadrunners, and his wife’s car is a 74 Challenger.
