PVC would shatter when the latch closes on it. I wouldn't have been able to drive a piece of PVC onto the pin like I did the PEX.

I just split the pex on one side and slipped it over the pin and rolled it so the split is facing the inside of the truck so you don't see it. Works great, and it only cost me $1.78 for a five foot piece of pex. Thanks guy's for the how to on this easy fix.

Wow, just have to add my thumbs-up for this trick. Just got some pex today and 5 minutes later, doors that shut like they should.

Yep, has to be one of the best, cheapest, quickest worthwhile mods to these trucks. I have yet to find anyone that wasn't amazed.

Back to the using PVC.... PVC also is not as flexible, and not so sure it would bend enough to get over the striker.

I have the Pex on one of my trucks for over 3 years now and still just fine and looks the same the day I put it on.

I knew about this a long time ago. I think I've had the Blue 84 C20 for 3 years now coming up on 4 IIRC and still working fine. Of course that truck has had a break and I don't drive it much having a roll back stuck my ass, used to be 24/7. But, it holds up just fine. You can consider it a permanent fix. It could wear out after time just like anything will, but it's pretty permanent.

I had to replace two pieces last night but I cut them a little short to begin with so they were slapping around in there and got beat little beat up. Now they are nice and snug and tight and I got the slot facing the inside. So, try and install them snug and they should be good. :)

I still want to try the way C4 did.

I dont really drive mine enough to give a good comparison to someone using theirs as a daily driver but it has held up much better than the electrical tape I had on the passenger side.

Yeah, same here. I may have had this on one of my trucks for 3 years, but in real life, probably only got 4 months use as a daily driver.

i just did this mod to my truck. i never knew that there was supposed to be some type of spacer on the striker as mine were missing. the local Lowes had the pipe for $1.79. i didn't even wait to get home to try it out. i whipped out my pocket knife and cut a piece right there in the parking lot and tried out. sure enough it worked out great!!! now my doors close better that i thought they ever could. i thought that my latches were worn out and needed to be replaced but this $1.78 mod saved me lots of work and money. thanks for posting this DIY.
