I hope there won't be a quiz on this later, I didn't take notes.
But after finding and reading this thread, it has inspired me to force myself to do something to the passenger side door so I don't have to slam it to close completely.

Looks like I'm going to Lowes tomorrow! I never knew there was a bushing on the striker. Awesome find!

I wandered out to my truck and looked, the driver's door still has the factory bushing, and it closes with a gentle slam. The passenger door is missing the bushing, and requires a fairly hefty slam to get it to close fully and latch.
I'm gonna try the PEX trick and see what difference it makes, as it appears everything else lines up good and the hinges don't sag.
Is there more than one size PEX ? I don't want to appear stupid when I go to Lowe's and ask for it. Or I could just be smart and use my calipers to measure the bolt diameter.

Holy crap. What a simple fix. Been riding around with a jacked up door until today when I seen this thread. Doors would close but have to slam. Driver door would pop open when driving. Not all the way but would have a gap. 5 minutes with a peice of pvc I had laying in the building and bam. Door is fixed perfect. Driver door was missing bushing and passenger door had one but it had a deep groove cut in it from years of abuse. If you dont like the color of it wrap some electrical tape around it. Keeps it nice and snug with no worries of it coming off.

Well didn't get to the passenger side, but I got the drivers side done before leaving for work. All I can say is AWESOME! No more having to slam my door to get it shut.

I wish to hand out a very hearty thank you for the suggestion.
Today, I went out to my plumbing pile, found a piece of thin wall 1/2" PVC and cut a chunk to fit the striker pin. Put a slit in it with a hacksaw, and was able to get it on the pin. Total time was about five minutes.
My passenger door is now closing easily and latching solid.
And the best part was no cost since I had the material on hand anyway.
Again, many thanks !!

Thanks for the post. I fixed both of mine today. I had to adjust the passenger side a bit. I sprayed some CRC Heavy Duty Silicone on the assembly while I was at it. I used a pipe cutter to make a clean cut on the circumference.

I measured the diameter of the post and it's 0.539" and the width is 0.740". Below are the dimensions of PEX. I was going to try 5/8", but with the info below, it would probably be too loose which is why he chose 1/2".

Tube Size - ID
1/2" - 0.475
5/8" - 0.574
3/4" - 0.677
1" - 0.863

Thanks Again, no more frustrations from the door not being closed all the way and then having to unlock it and do it again.

did this today. 1.90 for a 5ft piece of 1/2" pex! the drivers door still kinda had the stock one on, it was in horrible shape and pretty much crumbled on removal, the passenger side was gone completely. now both doors shut almost as good as any of my newer vehicles!

Finally got around to doing the passenger side. Big big difference! Feels so nice not having to slam the door. Now to fix the rattling glove box.
