OK so if you have a pick up truck, not sure about the Blazer, Jimmy's. You do not have to slide the pex over the striker. Simply remove the striker and slide it over the bolt in one piece with out slicing it.

I don't think this works for the Burbs or Crew Cabs but the retaining nut for the door striker is out in the open on the other side of the door pillar. You may have to remove the corner speakers to access it.

Just simply remove the striker, slip the pex over the bolt and reinstall.

No need to be trying to squeeze the pex over top of the striker on the pick ups

I need to cut me a few more pieces. I usally keep a couple sets in my glove box. They make great conversation starters and buddy makers when you see a square and the owner happens to be with the truck.

I agree, having some extra pieces ready is a good idea, especially if one of the installed pieces needs to be replaced and there's no place around that has pex.

I didn't have my square with me when I saw the owner of a square slamming the doors. I walked over and mentioned the fix, he seemed confused by the fix, but I made sure to clear it up before he left so he could do it right. And before he left I told him about this website too.

It's amazing how much difference this makes. I can close my doors with one finger now. Best $2 I've ever spent. Thanks for the tip.

I was sceptical when I first read about it, and told my stepdad about it when I went up to visit. He went to a drawer in his shop and pulled out a couple short pieces of Pex for me to try it with. I too was amazed how much easier the doors shut. I need to buy some to do again because the driver's side is chewed up and not working like it used to.

OK, tried to get this done yesterday on the passenger Front door on my 'Burb. Carefully used a strong magnet to hold the nut in place. Just as I am turning to grab the new bushing, I see my 2-year-old son's hand reaching for the magnet. Sure enough, Yoink! and clankety-clunk.

:flame:

So can somebody tell me if there's an access hole in the door pillar between Front and Rear doors, or do I need to make up a magnet-on-a-stick and go fishing for the nut?

Been doing this trick for years. I have used vinyl garden hose for my strikers and have had it last years. This pic is of some heater hose I presses on after removing the striker from the truck and taking the washer off. The heater hose is a little thicker so it makes the door operation a little sticky. Just don't have an old garden hose right now.....

Dang! You don't need to remove the stud to get the pex on there. Just cut it long enough to fit on the stud, then cut it lengthwise, spread it and slip it over the stud. Door is fixed. Unless you needed to remove the stud to align the stud to the door mechanism.

Nope, my OCD just didn't like the idea of having it slit lengthwise. It would have driven me nuts thinking it would pop back off.

You could always put some shrink tube over it too.
