Ever see this kind of grease fitting?

FINALLY got my front axle back. U-joints have these new fangled zirc fittings in them I'm guessing because normal ones are too big. How anyone can service anything in these axles is beyond me.

Anyone know anything about these?

There's an adapter that connects to your grease gun to fill those

Had them on my 2016 Ram 2500. Mine was a small needle style fitting.

Interesting thing is greasing the upper ball joint. Guy greased it then put a plug in because it interfered with the u-joint. UFB.

Newer MOOGs have the fitting on the edge of the ball joint. It's still a POS MOOG, but at least there's less mechanical work involved in a simple grease job.

I had the correct Moog ball joints, but one of the uppers was the wrong part in the right box - WTF? So I had to get a Napa brand and it had the fitting on the side. Had I known that, I would have gotten both so one could service it like a human.

Whats funny is....guy at OReillys today was telling me a story (I never mentioned mine) about a customer who ordered 2 Moog ball joints and one was the wrong part in the right box. He ordered 2 more and again, one was wrong. I wont buy them again.

Kind of wondering if i could put one of those flush fittings in there and then use the needle adapter to fill it. Using Royal Purple grease - several I know swear by it and say it stays in, doesn't wash out, etc. Dunno.

Any superior brand of grease will work. I never use the cheap stuff as the best stuff doesn't cost that much more.

I think @Jawzjeep has the correct one, that comes to a tapered all around tip, that's not beveled like a medical needle. We called them "high pressure grease needles" when I worked on planes. The rudders and ailerons hinge bearings had them on our planes. But our grease guns were air powered, and they always said not to put your finger near the tip and pull the trigger to clean the tips off, or getting it going or whatever because the grease came out at such high pressure at that tip, it would inject grease into you!

Now, those medical needle things, I've never seen any like those, what, you stick the whole end down into the fitting? How would you keep from breaking the tip off inside the fitting? I think you'd be better off looking for the one @Jawzjeep is showing, at least it's the same size all around.

I think the needle looking tips are for piercing the rubber seals around whatever joint you want to lube..........BUT that's NOT a good idea, first it's not gonna get to the ball and socket and second you are putting a hole in the seal and compromising the joint
