Probably by the weekend. What's the cheapest acceptable tach I can get at autozone? Or I guess I could order one from summit

I got this one for $40 at Carquest.

Well I adjusted the idle mix screws before I left and then drove it to the meeting just a couple blocks up the road. It ran but rough. Came back out 2 hours and after a hard start, it idled just fine. Still ran rough and is backfiring a little but maybe I can get it dialed in with a vac gauge. Will try to get that list of stuff tomorrow and see what happens. Hope to get a timing light on it at work tomorrow as well.

I assume it does the job or you wouldn't have mentioned it. Where did you mount it?

Sounds better then b4. Timing sounds as if it's a lil retarded. Guess we'll see

I had one like it before and it worked fine. Couldn't locate it so I bought this one. Haven't mounted it yet. The column rotates with the shifter, so figuring out a different mounting spot.

Just went and tried to start it to get it to the heated shop to work on it. Ended up flooding it out so it didn't start. Pulled a plug. It's solid black. Dried the gas off it and had the neighbor try to start it while I tested for a spark. No spark. So I guess I do in fact need new plugs. Kinda pissed that I only got 150 miles out of those.

Any idea why they are fouling out so fast? I guarantee if I pull the distributor cap off it is shot too. Should I just buy a whole new distributor? New vac advance and all? I don't want to buy parts I don't need, but I don't want to have to buy plugs and wires and a cap every 150 miles.

Ok here's my ignition setup...
Ngk v power plugs.
Moroso "blue max" spark plug wires. Straight from moroso.
Msd he I cap and rotor kit ( I used the low resistance button) skip white hei. I found it worked awesome out of the box minus having too much vac advance. So I limited it... Any hoo. Start with a good cap w/ brass contacts. The msd setup ids like $40 but it's totally worth every penny. Then blue max wires are the "holy grail"

I don't have 350Runner's setup, but I do run the premium components from Carquest with brass. They cost more and you have to ask for them otherwise they assume you want to cheap out and will give you the stuff with who knows what kind of metal for conductors and contacts. The preium stuff does make a difference.

I did just get the NGK plugs, but I forgot the damn carb gasket, so I have to go back for that. I had a thought at work today, but I haven't had a chance to check. I bet the butterfly's for the secondaries are hung up in the open position on the adapter. That's causing all that fuel to dump straight down the carb.

I bought some manuals for my carb today so I can get familiar with it, and one of the manuals is Adjustment Procedures. There are 47 adjustments to fine tune a rochester q-jet. I was amazed that there were that many. Tonight I am going to the bookstore to get a book written either by Doug Roe or Cliff Ruggles about the q-jet. The manuals I bought were $8 ($7.95) and come as a download. May be worth it to get something like that.

I should probably do that. I did get the timing light from work today so I can see how bad I can mess the timing up this weekend. Good thing I have another truck to drive.

It is a must to have more than one running vehicle for times like that when you are struggling to get one back on the road. But it can get expensive to keep them all maintained and fueled too.
