I was going to try to get that gasket today, but the wife surprised me with birthday plans, so I didn't get to work on it all all. I will pull a spark plug before I go get the gasket tomorrow to make sure I don't need another tune up. With the edelbrock running so rich for the last couple months I may have fouled them out. Will let you know what I find.

Started it up at lunch to try to bring it to the shop at work, idles fine for a minute. Walked in the house for a sec to get a drink and came back out to it idling extremely high. 2000+ rpm's. Hit the throttle to idle it down and it died. Just going to push it into my garage to swap gaskets and check plugs after work.

Do you have a rpm tach? When you installed this intake did you follow the bolt tq sequence? Please verify there are no vac leaks left... vac hoses, intake, carb, and carb adapter. Do you have a gasket on both sides of the carb adapter? Yet putting some Teflon tape on the bolt that went in that blind bolt hole you found that was a vac leak.

I don't have a tach. The intake was on the truck when I got it. Gaskets on both sides of the adapter. Didn't Teflon the bolt. If I can get it to half assed idle long enough, I will go all the way around it with carb cleaner again to varify no more vac leaks. There are 2 more threaded holes in the top of the intake that have always been open, but they don't seem to be pulling a vacuum. This is going to be something stupid easy if I can ever find it. Thought about pulling the internal fuel filter out being as how I already have an in line. Doubt that has anything to do with it but I don't have much to lose at this point.

Ok well if you want to move forward without the vac gauge. Start with the idle screws. This same process applies to the eddie you took out, so test on it first. Screw in both idle screws till they "seat" do not crank on them. Next back them both out 2-1/2 turns. Then adjust in or out to achieve the highest rpm at idle. Yup the left of the idle screws in front of the electric choke housing is a fast idle screw this can be backed out to slow down the high idle when the choke is closed. That should only be adjusted after all vac leaks and such have been fixed.

Ok I just went all the way around with wd40 and didnt find any vac leaks. What I did find:
Nothing changes at all when I unplug vac advance, even if I leave the manifold port unplugged.

It's only happening on startups right now. I start it, have to pump the **** out of the gas for a minute to keep it running. Once ****** idle is achieved, pump it some more to get rid of tractor idle. Then fast idle starts. Idles super high at this point, the only way to stop it is to slam the pedal all the way to the floor. Then it idles just fine. Drive it around and all is good. Kill it, immediately restart and have to start the whole process over again. Even idles super high when it's warm. Can do this 10 times in a row and have to go through the same process to start it up.

How much longer till you get that thick gasket? Leave the vac advance unplugged for now. Let's figure out the idle issue first.

I was going to pick it up this evening but I'm on city council and forgot I had a meeting tonight. I will either have it delivered to work tomorrow or I will go pick it up myself. Either way I will have it on by this time tomorrow.

Ok then we can go about this idle issues. I'd like to see what rpm your actually running too. Think a tach is obtainable?

Probably by the weekend. What's the cheapest acceptable tach I can get at autozone? Or I guess I could order one from summit

Sun pro tachs are usually on the shelf at the parts stores. Fairly cheap

I had some money banked up for my lift kit but I guess the lift won't do any good until I get it running. So vac gauge, gasket, tach. I live 30 miles from town. Anything else I need to pick up while I'm there?
