No - it's brand new, but is probably the eighth or ninth big block that has been in the car.

They tend to hover anywhere between 555 and 624 cu in as of late.

Theres was a guy in the 80s that worked at the GM proving grounds in Mesa Az that had a Chevelle that was the spitting image of yours, except for the drive line, ran 11.80s then. Infact the first time I saw your car I thought you were him.....

Rockers on valves adjusted. Just waiting on the stud girdle (back ordered til the 12th)

Man - I hardly remember.

Could have been a little 482 with factory oval port heads, or maybe a 510 with the factory C port aluminum heads.

Actually Those pics were taken in my buddy’s shop he builds bbc’s for a living. We built the last 496 and the 572 there at his shop.

Plus He has the run stand!

Getting ready to repaint the 572. I just couldn’t make myself like the plain ole Chevy orange.
