Conventional with the moly-graphene based Everglide EGC as my oil additive. 2nd bottle now. Very pleased with it. Check out the applications and recommendations on their site. Huge help in fixing my square's overheating and noise issues. Delco for my filters.

Since most of these older engines have flat tappet cams, the amount of Zinc in your oil is probably more significant than synthetic vs. dino oil. However, I switched to synthetic when I installed a new crate engine, since I don't drive my truck a lot and wanted to extend the oil change intervals.

I have found that Mobil 1 15w50 oil has the high Zinc I want (1300 ppm), and its available at a reasonable price from most parts stores. Many guys run variations of racing oil and diesel engine oil to get high Zinc, but Mobil 1 is frequently on sale, and I can find it easily. Mobil also has a 5W40 diesel truck oil with 1300 ZDDP, if you think you need lighter weight.

I have no affiliation with Mobil, I just happen to buy the product.

In my last 87 that had a 79 350 i ran shell rotella. Think was straight 30. My buddy runs that in his 82 k30 454 for the zinc levels. Its been a few years since ive had that truck. Moms 86 i think i put in rotella last time but not exactly sure. From what ive been told if you look at the alpha numeric coding on the lable i believe the cg4 (i may be wrong) is the one with acceptable levels of zinc for flat tappet. Like i said its been awhile since ive had to mess with em so i may be off a ways.

That’s what I was running via a friend for 5 bucks a quart. Bad part bout that is it doesn’t really have the longevity of normal oil. Rotella T5 now.

This is what i use religously and have been for many years in all my vehicles. After all the abuse ive given my burban on hardly any oil changes and its over 300k miles i do believe thats why its gone that far. Plus a can of restore ( when i do change the oil)

I'm running T5 10w30 in both my square and my f250 diesel. Diesel likes it but the square is using a little and didn't use any on the dino 15w40. Truck is very low mileage so I don't think that is the problem.

Can you use diesel oil in a gas engine? Always curious about this....
