I've had both. Imho, the 6.2 has a certain "cool" factor, such as it is.
Back before US 17 was 4 laned, I've almost killed myself with a R10 with a 305 and 2.73 gears.
No ass for passing. None. Zero. Zip. Nada.
Got great mileage though. Tailgate down, 21 mpg without overdrive (Th350c) on the highway.

The 6.2 pretty much the same. Just louder, ruder, and cruder.
It was in my 3/4 ton burb. It actually was better. Got 17 mpg highway with a th400 and 3.73 gears.
If I have any say in the matter I'll never have another 305. They're for mileage only.

305. I don't like the sound of a v6

A tbi 4.3 with no cat, 2.5" pipe and a Flowmaster 40 series sounds pretty darn good. I used to get a lot of compliments.

Nope, full throttle and bang shifting the 5-speed. But, I haven't had the truck in at least 10 years, so I can't get a sound clip for proof, lol. It really did sound cool though, not the usual V6 buzz.

P.S.
I had the exact same setup, but with a Dynomax turbo muffler. That sounded like crap. Mid load and RPM sounded like an old tractor.

3.9 is correct I believe. A Dakota of that era is actually where my 2.5" tailpipe came from. It fit my S10 perfectly. Stock was 2.25 on the S10, despite having a 2.5" outlet on the y-pipe.

isnt that just moronic, the y pipe ends in a 2.5 but they still choke it down to 2.25 for no reason other than DURR

my oldsmobile aurora had the y pipe end at a 3.0 and the mufflers, which were 30 inches away, pinched down to 2.25. why!?

The why, hot expanded gases need more room to free flow. When cooled, less area is needed to flow, keeping the same back pressure as the super heated gas.

but wouldnt 3.0 to 2.25 just seem like a really large jump? It was DOHC all aluminum v6 the 3.5 shortstar) id imagine maybe the pipe was the same for the northstar v8 version so maybe it served double duty?

Don't ruin our fun with logic, lol. Bigger pipes are more fun!

Real trucks have 6 in a row, so they will go.

If the Detroit you speak of is a 2 stroke, I'm with you. We had 6.2's in the fleet back in the day. They clocked a lot more shop time, I'll repeat, a lot more shop time than the trucks with spark plugs.

The 6.2 from the 1980s-1990s gm used are all 4 stroke
