i dunno which one you are looking at...the one i am thinking of has a longer duration cam, which moves useful torque up in rpm.I think we are talking about different engines.

Honestly, I don't think length of duration matters anywhere near as much as LCA does. 112 degrees is going to put you well into the bottom end grunt range. Had it been a 108 degree, then I'd be thinking more of a passenger car and mid to top end power band. Not saying duration doesn't matter, but LCA is going to decide moreso than the length of duration. The higher the LCA, you can also hide some of the duration or valve overlap, still giving more low end grunt.

Here it is, $420 More. Well worth it for the Vortec Heads and roller cam motor. Add the intake, carb and headers, I'd imagine getting close to 300hp is possible.

I've seen guys claim 330-340 finely tuned with a good intake and exhaust. Driving mine, it's not entirely out of the question. It's 10x better than the cammed L05 I had in it.

Yeah, the one I was thinking of was around 109 lsa, because we were looking at it for EFI...was a no go.

Yeah, now that's would be more of a mid to top end motor with a 109 and if a long duration high lift cam, you're likely to hear it lope a bit with having more valve overlap. 114-112 is usually a low end truck motor type cam, 111-110 kinda middle of the road, 109-108 more upper mid range. Also, higher the angle, the less valve overlap which means less lope.

It's important to understand those factors when you're wanting to make a sleeper. You can get the biggest cam you can to have the right LCA to hide the lope, and also for guys who compete for higher hg in vacuum at idle, use a higher LCA cam. Or find the cam grind you like, use a degree wheel and advance the cam timing a few degrees and you'll shut it up at idle, but then the power band also moves to a lower rpm. So if you find a cam you like and it's 108 LCA, just advance it and move the power band to lower end isntead of top end. Although, with cam technology today, there's really no need to get into all that. Just buy what you want with lift, duration, what LCA and install it straight up. That's how I like to do it these days.

This does look like a great option. Here i go showing my NEWB side again but...... why is it labelled "long block"?

Also.......im settling for just the 91 tbi swap for now. its free just requires labor.

Short Block is just the block, Long Block is BLock and heads, so it's a Long Block. Same motor at Jegs, $150 cheaper and with FREE Shipping. 3year 100,000 mile warranty.

Yeah, I think I'd actually considier getting that instead of building this 350 I got. I've got a great running GM Crate in the 85 K10 now, but I've also got one of those that I bought for $100 as a long block that was a great motor, but the ******* left it uncovered and seized it. It only sat for 2 days in the rain, I got it the 3rd and it was seized. Soaked it for a day in diesel fuel and used a pipe wrench and it broke free fairly easy. Not knowing the extent of the damage, I tore it down. I should have just put an intake on it and ran it. It's in great shape. I'd have to at least rering it now. I was going to just build it with flat tops, a cam swap, some vortecs and few other goodies. But, I think I'd rather just do that deal right there.
