Double spiral locks are a pain to install, but after 18, I am good at it. Use a stone to deburr rings. Wiseco uses this ring spacer for support over the pin area, common practice. I also polish each ring with green scotchbrite until it is super smooth.

These Wiseco pistons use a .078 wide top and second chrome moly ring set. This is how to check bolt streach. Short block FINALLY done.

The original Melling pump is high volume high pressure, which takes more hp to run. Generally if the engine has correct clearances, the standard volume pump will start to bypass around 2000 rpm’s. I will buy another Melling M77 pump and modify it. You can buy them with three different springs. I will set pressure at 60 psi, which is good for this 6000+ rpm engine. We have AMB tool supply in Yakima, will stop by and check my torque wrench on there gage, a free service. Back from town, my old Monkey Wards Powercraft tools torque wrench was......perfect, not even a lb. off at both 95, and 110 ft. lbs., amazing, at least 50 years old.

Ya gonna put a Blower on it?
I had a Sanger Flat bottom drag boat I built a couple BBC motors for
You must be registered for see images attach
Is that a 6-71? Would love to have a blower motor, but this motor is to high compression. Maybe in the future......

Monday and a little done. Howards timing set had to be returned, as it was just to tight, like no slop at all, tight. Summit was very good. I exchanger it for the same thing but from Summit. Still receiving some parts, Crank bolt, adj. timing pointer, Morose balancer installation tool, crank turning socket, and bottom of the line spark plugs. The scorpion rockers are a very good piece, and though they are rated at 1.7 they have been measured at 1.79. That will give me .685 lift, nice. A few pictures:

Sooooo, dang two steps forward and one step back. Have to wait to set my cam up. Also got this in today from repair, this will go in the overlander van....when we get it. Also is very portable, and can haul it around the farm, and power part of our house during a power outage. I also have three 100W solar panels, and a charger.

More parts in today, like the dipstick as it positively locks, and uses pipe threads to retain it, so it won't leak at all. I will take the pump apart to check it out and deburr any passages etc. Summit timing chain is built by Howards, exactly like the one that was too tight that I sent back....so hopefully this one is a bit looser. Bolt is for pump.

Pooh, timing chain that I replaced the Howard cam, (it was way tight) was a Summit brand, and made by SA gear, just like the Howards cam one....also way to tight. Sent back and waiting on a Cloyes.

Finally received my exchange timing chain, this time a Cloyes Street roller with adjustable keyways. It also has the cutout in the back of the cam sprocket for the included thrust bearing. All in all a good looking piece that has the right tension. HOWEVER... the timing was not correct, spent seven hours trying to find the four degrees retarded that the cam needed. Pulled the crank sprocket, and finally indexed it to the zero position, and found that it was three degrees retarded, so that is as close as I could get. So I ended up with a lope separation angle of 107, close enough. At least I can begin to finish assemble the engine. I am pretty sure as much as I turned the crank, the the rings are now seated.

Took oil pump apart, and dim. look good @ .0015, and also applied breakin lube to shaft. BTW The breakin lube is oil dissolvable, and mixes with the oil, and will drain out with the first oil change. The clay was about .300 thick, this is the clearance between the bottom of the pan and the pickup, perfect. The Moroso pump is a nice piece, comes with three springs, and is hi pressure standard volume. I used the 60-70 pound spring, so should be good for the 6500 RPM target for this engine. The Felpro one piece steel reinforced pan gasket I have used before, and it is now the only one I use as they don't leak, and bottom out on the steel and torque well.

The oil pan has some nice hardware, and is double bolted, so bolts cannot loosen. I think this is a pretty engine, but pretty is what pretty does. Spring has sprung so very busy with the ranch, but determined to check the valve clearance this week, and will show how I do it. That will allow me to finish the engine assembly, then on to the transfer case and 4l80e. Hope to have the rolling chassis with drive train in by May, then fuel, wiring etc to finish the chassis. Thankfully most of the items have been purchased to finish to that point. Wish I could hire someone to help with bodywork....but when you live way out in the boonies, it is hard to get anyone to come out here. BTY, the timing cover is a Cloyse, it clears everything, and I have the camshaft play set at .002, and it is easy to do with this setup.
