This is what I would do on my vehicle or a customer at the shop. If the bracket is bent replace it as that could affect belt alignment. As long as whatever is through the alternator and the bracket gets tight and holds in place that will work, a nut can be a pain but it will do the job. The alternator is suppose to be threaded, on my own vehicle I'd probably pull the alternator off and install a helicoil in it, but at the shop we'd give the customer the option of a nut, or replacing the alternator and the labor to R&R it and install a helicoil would likely cost more than replacing the alternator, so it might be on your truck. The way it is because it was what someone could afford to do.

Om another note are you running a fuewl pressure regulator with the edlebrock?

No, im not running one. Why? 6psi is the max pressure in the line ive read.

I asked because some aftermarket GM pumps can get up close to 9PSI, and I believe Edlebrock doesn't want more than 5PSI, I have a hot start issue, that I think might be due do to high of fuel pressure but I haven't investigated so I was just curious.

Taylor don't fret the tweaked bracket, you can wipe that smirk off it's face with some proper attitude. Don't be afraid to whip it back into shape with
a big ass hammer and a set of channel lock pliers... Big ones. Usually the slot gets stretched open and bent over to one side. This happens when the original flanged bolt gets lost and then replaced by a smaller non-flanged bolt and some... washers. Ends up spending the slot. So you take it off and
brace against concrete and hammer back into cooperation.

Your weak charging system may be the slight misalignment of the belt as well as small wires and corroded connections. All that adds up to yellow headlights every time.

Like said, yea it's just a bolt and washers. Whatever you rig up will work though. A smaller diameter bolt that goes through with a nut, drill and tap it larger if needed. Pull the whole setup from a parts truck if you need that or get a new alternator and the setup.

Huh. Weird. So if i bought a new one, it might not work? I dont know what year this engine is out of. I could alwyas pulls the alternator and find a casting #
If that alternator belongs to the engine , it could be anything bout of a GM for decades and work.

Your right about the edels not liking over 5psi. Get an in line regulator some time and set it at 4.5. Makes things much smoother. OR go back to a properly setup qjet.

Engine never had a qjet and from what I read i don't want to mess with one. Nor rebuild or adjust or bother, especially since I got a new Edelbrock. I will look into a regulator.

Taylor I'm not trying to hijack your thread so I apologize. Joshua, I'm well familiar with both the Edlebrocks and the Q-jets. I'm a bigger Q-jet fan, then Edlebrock, and if it were up to me I would have left the factory Q-jet on my truck and rebuilt it when it needed it, but the former owner installed the Edlebrock, and because Q-jets cost a ridiculous amount of money new, and I might have to spend sometime setting it up, I'm just sticking the Edlebrock. I have a hot start issue and intermittent slight ruff idle that appears to be from to much fuel, and it is not a peculation issue. I need to verify the float settings in the edelbrock and probably install a pressure regulator. I'm going to start a new thread on that right now.
