I think 2 stage is the way to go, no doubt. Especially if you have something that's going to eat air like a media blaster. If its just hand tools and what not, a 60 gal 2 stage would be overkill.

I bought this one a couple of years ago, I was told Industiral Air was making the compressors for several brands and there was a 20% off coupon on black friday that applied to the compressors at the local Rural King store.

I made a wood base for mine and mounted it with vibration pads to the base, eases vibration and noise.

Do you have a Lowes near you? I bought mine from Lowes. They special order it. It sells for $1299. But you get on ebay and pay like $4 for a 10% off coupon. Then you use it on the compressor and get it for $1170 instead of $1300. Oh, and you buy the oil change/filter kit so that you get a free extended warranty. It is an absolutely awesome compressor.

That's the one I got too, the performance out of it is incredible.

This is the one I was looking at from Tractor Supply.

But y'all say a 60 gallon would work for my needs, they have this one one sale also.

but it is a single stage, from what I have been reading 2 stage is the way to go

All depends on the quality of the compressor, the cheaper units often have poor flow numbers. An 80 gallon compressor can be a better choice then.

I've also got mine on 4x4 wood blocks. It's smooth running enough though, it could probably set right on the concrete and be fine.

The basic 60 gal unit has very very good flow specs and is 100% American made too. Way better than a larger cheaper unit. Not much over the 1K budget either.

x2. EXCELLENT compressor. I've got one myself, and I've been very happy with it. From blasting, wide open die grinder, HVLP spraying, etc. I haven't had anything it can't handle yet.

For mounting, I just cut out some old tire treads to go between the floor and feet and anchored it down to the concrete.

I have an earlier model of this one, its an SS-3 an the pump was made in India. I got it from tractor supply when they were phasing the model # out. I had to drive two hours to get it but it was like $350 or $400. So far its done everything ive needed no problem. I got it planning on doing sandblasting an painting myself but I havent yet. For the price I paid for it I'm extremely happy with it.

Oh an for mounting we had some old antifatigue mats at work they were throwing out. I cut a small piece off an cut squares about 4x4 to go under the feet an anchored it down.

I'd read up on the Ingersal-Rand before I bought one new. Local rebuilder/seller said the newer ones aren't as dependable as the old ones. I haven't verified this so it'd be a good idea to see what google says.
