Good morning,

My Wife bought me and 1987 Custom Deluxe V10, 350, with a nice plow for the Property up north. 92,000 miles. Been sitting for 14 years. Cleaned off the motor. removed the rusty Plugs and changed them. (no easy task) Smog pump and pipes have dissolved so I removed them, put a 25k resistor in place. New fuel tank, filter and pump. Cleaned the tbi and flushed the fuel lines. Cap and wires which turned into a distributer when both screws broke off for the cap. Exhaust is missing yet where it rusted through in front of the Cat. Battery in Cranks over no start but will run only if I bottle feed it. No signal to the injectors. 12.3 volts on the positive side, injectors open if i manually ground them. New ground strap on the back of the motor. Suggestions? Tried to externally ground the ECM no joy.

Can you provide a little more detail about replacing the smog pump and pipes with a 25K resistor? I'm not familiar with this but it could become relevant to me later (my truck still has all the AIR injection but it could be contributory to my lean fuel error so that might need to change).

I got the resistor sizing on Chevytalk.org for deleting the smog pump. I'm told it makes the ECM think it is still operating.

No corrosion on the contacts in the ecm opened it up no burning or corrosion inside either. Wires have no evidence of Fivel the mouse either. Checked the grounds under the hood. Changed the ground strap from the fire wall to the block on the passenger side. Still no fuel. Going to get a reman ecm and try that.

Couple months have past verified 18 PSI fuel pressure. ECM change with no effect, new engine block ground strap to fire wall, cleaned the ground wire to the alternator mounting bolt. checked the grounds to the core support and cleaned them up, now my lights work properly. Still have 12 volts to my injectors when cranking, oil pressure comes to 30 psi cranking on the gauge. Distributer was changed when I tried to put in a new ignition module. Engine still runs when bottle fed. ?????

Should be a visible pulse of fuel when cranking. 12v present at injectors? check for ground pulse on other side. Follow the diagnostic chart to the letter. Will take you to the offending issue. Broken exhaust, missing air pump no effect on starting. However, it will affect drivability after going into closed loop.

Chevrolet C/K (fourth generation)

R/V series (1987–1991)

For the 1987 model year, GM redesignated the Rounded-Line Series C/K trucks as the R/V series (R = rear-wheel drive; V = 4×4).[5] The nomenclature change was done to accommodate the launch of the GMT400 C/K; though launched for the 1988 model year, the newer product line went on sale in April 1987. In a more subtle change, the R/V trim levels were revised (to match the GMT400 C/K).

For the traditional autumn launch of the 1988 model year, GM began to transition buyers further into the new model line, withdrawing 1⁄2-ton R/V trucks (3⁄4-ton trucks were discontinued after 1988).[10] For 1990 and 1991, the R/V series consisted of 3500-series crew-cab pickups and chassis cabs, which also served as the basis of the Suburban and Blazer/Jimmy full-size SUVs.[10]

For 1992, crew cabs/chassis cabs (and full-size SUVs) moved to the GMT400 chassis, marking the end of the Rounded-Line series after 18 model years.
