ok, 2 things...while it is running, and you are looking at the timing mark with the light, tap on the intake manifold, and see if the mark moves back toward the pointer, and check your TPS voltage at the blue wire with the key on, but engine off...should be around .54 to .70 at closed throttle, the open it, and it should progress smoothly to around 4volts.

It was at 0* with the wire unplugged and when I Plugged the wire in and restarted the truck it would barely start and then after a minute it idled fine and was showing almost strait up how ever that was a week ago and I can't even get it to idle on it'd own.

I went by my sutozone a few days ago and they said they didn't loan them.

I'm assuming that you want me tO try and test the knock sensor? I replaced that a week and a half ago. Also I can't get it to idle with the wire plugged in anymore.

I tested the tPs at the same time I did the map and it tested good but will test again this afternoon.

Well, if i was in your situation, and 100% sure the timing chain, and distributor were installed correctly, and plug wires are routed correctly, my next step would be to replace the o2 sensor.try to find an ac delco sensor if possible.
Other than that, the only experienced guys I know that could help, are down in the austin area.

My plan for this evening was to check the distributor again and Play with the timing.

****, we posted at the same time, if you tested those, never mind. will it idle with your foot on it a little? It seems to me that the timing is advacing way beyond perameters. try leavingbit plugged in and retard the timing and see if there is some point where it will idle. what timing light do you have?

Sometimes it will idle when I give it gas but slmost all the time it won't. I think that the timing is too advanced also, I will try to retard more to see if it will idle. I have a timing light that has the clip that goes around the wire not the plug but it doesn't have a tach or anything like that.

Is it the adjustable type with the dial. If so, base timing needs to be set with that knob at 0.

ok so i checked the distributor and it is installed correctly. also I adjusted the timing to 0* and when i plugged in the bypass wire and it would start and idle rough. the timing light showed that, from my interpetation, is advancing the timing and when it stumbles shoots back to 0* and therefore the computer is doing what it should.

Wonder if that new MAP sensor is a fluke?
