I feel your pain with a cr@ppy thermostat. Had the oscillating temperature on my jeep cherokee after installing a motorad thermostat. It would get up to running temp and then drop, running temp, drop. Dug out an old Stant that I kept, installed it, steady running temp, no fluctuations whatsoever. Unfortunately motorad had taken over, Stant is no more, even if you get a Stant box, 99.99999999999% it's been reboxed with motorad.
After reinstalling the old Stant, I decided to buy a bunch of Stant thermostats to have on hand for years to come. My research concluded that each of my pre-1992 vehicles used the same thermostat, so I ordered 10, and with the two I already had, that would leave four for each vehicle should one need to be replaced. Each Stant box had motorad in it. I returned all of them. After returning those, I looked in the Stant boxes that had for a few years, motorad inside them. WTF!
