Yep, If I am going for those biggo gas hog motors, I try to put 71 as my limit and I really prefer 69 and earlier. Compression goes in the *******, and so does Nox bumps in the heads. Which doesn't scare me much since you can alwasy grind those out, but still low compression pistons, big CC chamber heads. With exception of 1 year, Olds kept the CC chambers the same, but did add smog bumps which can be ground out, and they controlled compression with the dish in the piston, so on an Olds, doesn't matter alot since you can rebuild it with smaller dish pistons, grind out the Nox bumps, get an Eddy intake and the smog is virtually gone. However, the older motors are still stronger with better metal and Nodular cast cranks instead of just cast cranks.
