I have a stethoscope and frankly I’m having a heard time isolating the noise. It sounds loudest when touching the head between the headers and valve cover, but I could also be wrong. No flat tappets.
If style with a hose on it remove the end piece. Any exhaust leak will be quite noticeable as air passes by the end of the open hose.

I have a pro built 383 flat tappet hydraulic cam in my 36 Chevy street rod w/roller rockers (dynoed @ 455 HP, 468 FtLbs). Yes, I use a zinc additive. It is a little noisy when cold but quiets down when warm. My 2016 SS Camaro with the LT 1 also has roller rockers and they are slightly noisy. My 02 SS Camaro w/LS 1 was a little noisy(blogs used the term "sewing machine sound". I have not trouble with any of these motors. I have always thought that the roller lifters were a little noisy. (Told by several mechanics and the dealer that this is normal for roller rockers)

Adjust the valves while you have the covers off. Use the two-roll method.
When I first read this, I was thinking of Tommy Chong on Up in smoke....glad you clarified that. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

They are inherently noisy. I have a tick on my 85. It has retrofit rollers and a mild GM cam. The noise has been there since day one of the install. I also have had real noisy lifters from Comp Cams on one of my LS builds. I would check them and move on.
