I believe you're thinking of Mad Dog Transmissions in Atlanta...I believe the owner's name is Lou. I think he used to be at Monster then started his own company(ies). Sounds like he uses the same MO that all the large remanufacturing companies have adopted when it comes to post-purchase customer service (or lack thereof).
It's a shame because like 90% of consumers looking for a 'new' transmission have no idea what they're buying; a majority believe they are purchasing a brand new transmission that comes with literally brand new soft AND HARD PARTS throughout the entire unit...It's not until they see how these things are slapped together for themselves do they realize that whatever preconceived notions they have are completely wrong.
Another major offender are the big auto parts chain stores...Those units and their respective torque converters are complete F-shows.
YES YES, it's Lou with Mad Dog and was with Monster at one time. I've heard nothing but BAD about his transmission and support is horrible, even worse than Monster. I tell everyone, ask around and just find you a reputable builder in your town or even someone out of town if you trust them that much. Reason being, when it comes to support or warranty, the shipping alone is a fortune so rather than saving a couple hundred dollars buying from places like Monster, Mad Dog, Trans Depot, Summit, etc etc, where you'd have to pay shipping AGAIN 2 ways for a return, may as well get a local guy to do it.
I'm so out of touch with transmissions now. Been gone to long, getting to old and forgetting so much. Way to much going on that I doubt I'll ever get up again to do them and would only be doing my own now. I know I want to get an OD option in my 84 454 C20 truck. I was thinking it's worth it to do the stand alone controller and a 4L80-E. I forget now, but it seems like a 6L80-E might be the better option but I forget why.
