I’m looking into a 2006 5.3 LS4 to build for a future project car. Is the LS4 worth building? I’ve heard of and seen a lot of people build the older LS models and they seem to be good engines but wanted to get some feedback from people with LS experience.

The owner states that it “…runs well and only has 100k on it…”

Thanks for the help in advance. I really appreciate it

That's a front wheel drive LS, I've never really researched them much but I believe the general consensus is you can't use them in a RWD application? Not 100% but I feel like that's what I've read.

Regardless though, that's right in the transition from gen3 to gen4. Gen3s and 4s are fantastic engines, easy to build and maintain, make great power and get great fuel mileage even with a cam and other upgrades. It'll have a 24x timing system (gen3, gen4 was 58x) but it very well could have the stronger gen4 bottom end/block. What heads are on it? I think those got 799s? Great flowing heads, that's what I have on the 5.3 in my square.

Been reading up on it and it’s doable to make it rear wheel drive just not cost affective. Looks like that’s going to be more money than I want to or even have to put into this motor.
The search continues ….
Thanks for the help
