Well I know when I wrecked my first 2001, I went to get my stuff out of it at the wrecker yard and the seats were ALL ****** up. DPS had come and pulled the black boxes out of them. They record the last 15 seconds before a crash. Anthing youdid, acceleraed, brakes, blinker, whatever. Records speed and all that. Big Brother type ****

EXACTLY! Screw that ***** man.

Exactly....I dont want it disassembled for a year, I want to be driving it.

WHen it comes to that, I'm even digging the guys who put a new paint job on a truck and then stress it to look old and patina'd. Cause thats the look thesedays...people want to see them original looking, not all cherry red and chromed out.

I think the truck looks good at the stock stance, minus the huge mudders in the back holding the ass end up. But I would like to see it lowered a few inches, even on ralleys or moons. Im really past the donk wheels. I prefer a nice set of 15/16" wheels with some good rubber. Youcan actually drive the truck without worrying about potholes lol

I have always followed my Dads advice, great advice.

1-Make it run how you want, get the drive train in order.
2-Paint and body work.
3-interior.

I mix it up, a little bit here and there. **** dude, a couple days work with that truck and it will be something people are jealous of.

Heard that, My dad is the same except interior comes after mechanics, for him anyways. But they all agree the thing needs to run first.

Painted a few letters on the gate....Right direction? I know its bright white and looks kinda too new on it, but I can stress it out a little bit to look faded. Just always liked the CHEVROLET to stand out

Oh, and the lettering looks great. I think they all came painted like that originally anyway.

Alternator, starter, carb, etc...but now looks like I have a motor to put in it. Have to tear it down and rebuild it but that's no problem. I'll need to buy a cam for it anyway probably...I'll go ahead and put a good sized cam in it just to have some lope.

Yucky, looks like a Heinz 57 motor.

So how the hell did I miss the start of this thread. I haven't read it all, but are your plans for an engine? You going with a stock motor? I'd be trying to find a 283 or small journal 327. What are your cast #'s on the back of that block? I know its older, but I see the TBI heads.

Came out of the 87-88 suburban in my backyard. 350, smokes. I'll pull it all apart and rebuild it with all new parts just like the 85's motor. Mild cam. Will be nice when it's done.

Ok, I read some of the thread. I'd avoid that 305 V6. If it were a GMC and orignally the V6 and wanting to keep it original I would use it, but that 305 is heavier than a Big block and as you said bad on gas. I agree to go with a small block V8. Did you get the original auto trans crossmember with it that has the park brake linkage included?

This project makes me miss the hell outta my 64 GMC 3/4 with factory OEM leaf springs, Dana 60 rear end with OEM Limited Slip and 4.56 gears. Loved that truck even as ugly as it was.

I was thinking you might want to get away from those TBI heads and maybe go with some older school perimeter valve cover bolt heads, or if you want some performance, go with some Vortecs. Otherwise run what you brung and :grd:.
