That's correct.

As I said, it was a long time ago and my recollection could be off, but when junkyard scrounging we were looking for a 4WD rear. I would definitely be checking it before I bought one.

I've had 2 & 4WD square bodies. I know when I rebuilt the rear spring pack in my K30 recently it had factory axle shims under the springs. Years back, I added a 2" rear blocks to a 2WD 3/4 ton Suburban and also a C20 3+3. I don't recall those trucks having the shims in there when I installed the blocks.

Maybe @Keith Seymore would have more info if GM in fact welded the axle pads at different angles.

Actually the 70's and 80's vans have a wider rear axle. You can swap one in to make the front/rear track the same on our trucks. Of course the perches and stuff need moved. Also, the vans used narrower springs so IIRC, the perches are too narrow to reuse.
You are correct, I re-read the bible and it said the hubs interchange but can offset the WMS measurement if mix-matched, which may be the case here.
