I checked the gas cap yesterday, it's a goofy cap, like a half turn cap, felt like it wasn't on right to me, so I took it off, and put it back in, and told my mom to drive it for the week and next weekend I will run it over to AZ to get the codes, and come back here for discussion before I buy anything. Thanks for the help.

Taking it to a parts store to have codes read is what you should do first. But I will forwarn you MOST PLACES WILL PULL A CODE AND TELL YOU THAT YOU NEED THIS OR THAT. DO NOT Jump the gun on buying there parts, it is best to go back home and research the codes along with a little more diagnostics of the error.

^^^this is exactly what I was going to put. I've been to AutoZone numerous times to pull codes. Then they tell me and give me a print out and I'll go home and research before buying anything :)

Well, my Mom called me today and said the light went out and hasn't come back on. I told her about the gas cap and she said, well yeah, that's about the time when the light came on is the same day I bought gas.

Yep, very common to throw an EVAP code and AZ, Advance and O'rys will sell you a gas cap you don't need and won't fix the problem. Likely the vent vavle as suggested IF that's the code you get.

Also note, tell your mommy to make sure is not letting the car run when she fills up. Many people do this in the winter time. ITs a Big NO NO on OBDll cars. Make sure the motor is OFF before you pull the gas cap or it can code.

Just cuz the light went off, it'll be back since the error is now in memory. So until its erased, you don't know if its coming on from memory code, or a new code. Still need to get it on a code reader and eraser.

John I bought a little Acton handheld OBDII reader at Advance for around $80. Any vehicle with OBDII has the same connector under the dash.

I am a Squarebody owner.

Sorry Dawg, I used a poor choice of words there. Not feeling well at all and was hasty. Point I was actually trying to make, we sure don't want our tech and truck build threads getting tore up like that.

Thread is cleaned up and now return to regularly scheduled programming.

Thanks HRPC :handshake: I know that I like all threads treated equally :D Even if we get traffic from non-square body owners that's cool cuz that may turn into good members who are fans and join up and contribute

I hope you get to feeling better, though, man. You're dealing with some nasty stuff :)

Keep us posted on the Cavi, 89Sub!!! I may have similar threads to post on the Caprice in the future :D

I knew most of that, but not the history, like the VW. My dad had a 71 VW with fuel injetion which would have been the Type 3 in VW Squareback. Everyone was always impressed how well that thing ran as far as performance. Of course the FI models weren't as popular so most people had the carbed models. The FI ran a bit quicker.
