Twitchy steering with a big travel trailer (rear sway bar help?)

I've been watching this thread since it started, kinda letting it "air out" before I chimed in. My Suburban is a 1987 R20, 8600gvwr, towing a 21' camper weighing in at 3900-ish lbs. dry weight. Where I live it is the windiest mid-day, the time of course when we prefer to be towing :). I don't...

    Let’s see your memorabilia?!

Picked up another useless trinket today: 18"x24" , beat up, overspray, but looks okay in photos. Looks like house paint overspray on the edges. Any suggestions on how to clean the anodized and painted areas on top of the anodizing without damaging either?

    Tire/wheel recommendations

I know this has been shared on the forum previously, but I really think it helps visualize what's going on with different sizes/offsets/gear ratios/etc. https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/ May not be EXACTLY right but will give you something to start with.

Has anyone bought the Summit Racing AlumaRally Wheels 17s?

Did you see this thread about the Vision version? https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/k5-k10-17x8-or-17x9-vision-cheyenne-aluminum-rally-wheels.45776/ Pretty sure they're the same wheels...

    1987 Fresh Air Intake

Measurements as promised, just several days late- looks like about 3-3/8"x8-1/4" on my air cleaner opening.

    1987 Fresh Air Intake

My air cleaner is a '87 big block version and I suspect the opening is different from the 350 version, but I can take some measurements this evening to compare.

K5 K10 17x8 or 17x9 vision Cheyenne Aluminum rally wheels?

That video was the first time I saw those wheels. His are actually 18"x 9"-12mm offset w/285/60-18 tires. Perfect wheel/tire ratio to me.

    Power Tour 2025

I've done a couple of Long Hauls and a few partials in my '79 Cutlass, but gonna skip out on this one. I'm not sure how they would make the routes interesting through the locations they're hitting. Personally I enjoy the driving/travelling with fellow participants more than the static experience...

    Southeastern GM Truck Nationals.......... 2025

I plan to be there. Gonna invite a couple of buddies to join me and camp out nearby for a (straight)guys weekend-heat be damned.

Need some help understanding turn signal lever, somethings missing?

I was just getting ready to share that same link. Specifically pg.42-46-ish. He calls your missing part the "tilt lever housing". My Suburban was missing some of the ball bearings and the sliding pusher piece ("high beam follower"-pg. 44) when I got it. Scavenged what I needed from a buddy's...

Need some help understanding turn signal lever, somethings missing?

Yea you're missing part of the column. There should be a cover that hides the metal rod that houses a sliding piece that allows the lever to actuate the high beam rod down to the switch further down the column.

    '87 Q-jet 454?

So I'm a little confused by some items on my Suburban. It's an '87 R20 454. The spid shows L19 for the engine-TBI 454. The air cleaner shows a ZKY code with what appears to be a Q-jet layout. Currently has Holley Sniper setup. Annnd in another twist- it was originally sold in Maryland, I bought...

    Head versus manifold coolant temps

My '87 Suburban-87(?) 454 w/ Holley Sniper setup, cast iron intake, Sniper ECT sensor in passenger head- shows 208-212 on the Holley handheld running down the road in warm weather and higher as soon as I shut it off or get in traffic. The factory gauge never gets near the 210 mark. My assumption...

    Waffling

That is the exact wheel/tire size combo that I put on my Suburban R20. I went with a Discount Tire house brand- Rocky Mountain A/T and am pleased with them so far. I too was concerned with the height(31.6") and wheel offset but no rubbing at all. If you want, I could get a photo of the tight...

    Rear Shock Extenders

My Suburban is not lowered so no dog in this fight, but I was under the impression that any axle flip/6"/7"/8" rear drop required a C-notch for adequate suspension travel. I think the shock extenders allow you to use stock length shocks on a lowered suspension but still allow the shocks to be...

What have you done to your square lately??

Swapped out the the non-performing "Delco Performer" shocks for some new Bilstein 4600's. I feel like a shock snob, but it should ride better.

    Home Fabricated Parts

Final iteration: It snaps on using one tab top and bottom at the air cleaner and holds the 4" Spectre air duct with three tabs in the round opening. My air cleaner is an '87 454 Q-jet tall filter version. The opening is oval about 6" x 3" if I recall correctly. If anyone is interested in having...

    Show your daily driver

Thanks Huck. Next time I will have to say hi. Nashville superspeedway/Lebanon, TN is about 3-1/2 hours south from me taking two lane roads. Gonna try to attend Southeastern truck nationals next July, maybe C10 Nat's again.

What did we do before cup holders?

My Cutlass lacked cup holders as well, and after several years of the plastic hump riders, I built this- It could be better, currently all glued and stapled with no sewing, but functionally it's great. Link to cup inserts that hold can koozie, mid size Gatorade, 32 oz. foam, or 30 oz. stainless...

Thanks- its had a shoddy paint job sometime, but the underneath is mint. Needs some trim pieces reattached and fifty other little projects.

    Home Fabricated Parts

The son of my group leader(barely 16y.o.) is 3d printing some stuff. My Suburban doesn't have a fresh air inlet for the air cleaner, so I asked if we could come up with something. This is an early prototype- Missed the offset for the generic 4" hose inlet, but he is building another.
