Are these exhaust manifolds off a big or small block?

That's correct. I would have to think those headers are BBC or possibly Ford.

    Need help with Carburetor

FWIW my QJ from the factory was unmolested when I got it. I rebuilt it and had to remove the factory anti-tamper plugs. The factory setting was turned out four full turns on the mixture screws. Being a Holley guy, they normally get set 1-1.5 turns so my thinking for the QJ was it had to be...

Very cool ride. Do you know what make, model, part number or any other number that step bar is?

    Instrument cluster lighting issues

I stand corrected. I checked my Sub last night and the climate control panel and Radio both dim with the headlight switch just like the rest of the panel lights.

    Newby in Western Wisconsin

Awesome find. I can relate. Towed my boat and snowmobiles from the Oconomowoc area up to Minoqua more times than I could ever count with my old '88 Sub. I was born and raised there til 15 yrs. ago. Now a floridian and I can barefoot year round.

    Newby in Western Wisconsin

Holy Crap.....How cool is that old girl? How in the Sam Hell does that still look that good from WI in stock form??????? It had to have been stored every winter. Hell it might have been stored since pretty much brand new. Mileage?

    Instrument cluster lighting issues

I believe you're correct on that. Good call on checking it. Especially after someone was installing a trailer brake controller.

    Instrument cluster lighting issues

Pretty sure that the lamp for the heater/AC control panel and the radio doesn't run through the dimmer of the headlight switch. That said, is the dimmer on the headlight switch turned off? It should be at the brightest setting just before it clicks the dome lights come on (if you have dome...

Razor blade and paint thinner to remove sticker

I second Magic Eraser. Check out You Tube videos about removing adhesive trim. I've never personally used one but I have lots of friends who swear by them.

    Alternator tensioner-thing?

Not just the GMT400's. My 86 Sub is that way. I swear some moron used metric on half and SAE on the other half. No rhyme or reason to it either. Very much a PITA.

    Power window switch issue

+1 Just did this on the drivers side 4 position switch of my Sub. I first tried spraying good with an electronic parts cleaner before trying to take it apart but that didn't do squat. It was a definitely a bit of a beeotch to get it apart but use some patience. It'll come. I also dismantled...

Adjusting rear drums - pulling trailers

There could be an issue with that trailer too. I'm certainly no expert but I've pulled plenty of loads over the years with and without brakes. If you're getting a push like you say on two different tow rigs you might want to be looking at that home made trailer. What are the chances that the...

Sweet ride. Nice score. Best thing about these trucks is they look good stock, lifted or lowered. Just a matter of personal preference.

    Fleetside tool box...

My father-in-law had a F250 camper special that had one of those boxes. I'm thinking it was a 78 or 79 but I could certainly be wrong. Anyway, the hinge got so rusted you couldn't open it. Really cool option though. @73454GMC That is one gorgeous truck you got there my friend. The clean long...

    Is this radio original?

Yeah you can clearly see where the radio was supposed to be mounted. Then a cover plate was made up to cover that hole and mount the ammeter. Either way, the mounting of both looks to have been done well. I still think its really cool the radio is still a tube and still works. I can't remember...

    Is this radio original?

What's the gauge in the bottom left corner of the pic right under the climate control panel? That's where the radio should be. At least the only place I've ever seen it from the factory. If its really a tube radio don't ever get rid of it. That's truly a lost unicorn in today's world.

    Missing Dip Stick

I know I have a book at home that details this. I think GM moved the dip stick on the SBC a couple times during its life cycle. I believe it was on the drivers side until '86 when they went to a one piece RMS.

Catalytic converters: does your square have them?

I have an '86 350 Sub that I bought pretty much stock. I put headers and true 2.5" duals with turbo mufflers and got rid of the cat at that time. That new exhaust along with a quality tune up and carb rebuild really woke it up. It'll at least get out of it's own way now.
  23. Backfoot100

What have you done to your square lately??

Figured out that the A/C compressor would kick on for virtually any setting I put the temp control switch to. Heat and vent even kicked on the compressor. Tore the dash apart to remove the temp control switch and there's a rotary A/C switch mounted to the top of that which controls the...

Talk me out of cutting my dash

I feel you but purely from a devils advocate prospective, look at the amount of issues guys have on this forum purely from a wiring nightmare that PO's have done? Absolute wiring and hack job atrocities that guys try to wring out years, even decades after some dickhead decided to just start...

    Rare valve covers?

Those old school Heartbeat valve covers are cool but not worth that price. The mods may not allow this based on posting rules...LOL. I only paid a little more than that for these for my boat motor. Price included the extra tall covers and engraving which was my own design.
