Hi guys I am new to this forum. I have a 1984 gmc 3/4 ton with a turbo 400 transmission. It was stuck in first gear. I found out that the governor plastic gear had been worn smooth. I put a rebuilt governor in it, but it only lasted about a month before its gear was worn out. Has anyone had this problem before?

This issue is likely caused by a severely worn rear transmission case bushing. When the bushing is worn, it allows the output shsft to oscillate in ways that cause the drive and driven gear on the governor to fall out of mesh.

Is this a two-wheel drive truck?

Yes this is a two wheel drive, with heavy duty towing package.
