Wanting the T case shifter to be bout 5 or 6 inches forward of where it was at when the 400 was in it and dead center between the bucket seats ...

There's a small bit of reasoning for the location I'm after..
You see there will be only the T case shifter in the cab ... Won't be a transmission shifter that can be seen .. Having the T case shifter mounted where the trans shift would normally be at is a false trans shifter ...

Sneaky Pete type deal ...

Thought was to do a thread on what I'm in the mist of doing on my 75 K10 ..

Not very long ago I swapped rear ends ..
Truck came from GM with a 12 bolt, wasn't up for the work I was throwing at it ..
It didn't like being asked to pull a 30' fifth wheel RV with a 16' box trailer hooked to it ..
A trip to the boneyard netted a 14 bolt 3/4 ton (Light-Duty) Corporation ..
It came with 3:73 gear, 12 bolt was 3:50 gear ..

That was great for pulling, but gas mileage went out the window .. (Wasn't all that good to begin with)
My thought was to install a overdrive in a effort to gain back what was lost with the gear ratio swap ..

Wanted a super beefy unit due to the workload it was in for ..
The built TH 400 had no problem with the work, a great transmission to say the least about it .. Time for a upgrade was at hand ..

I bought a 2000 4L80E out of a 3/4 ton van from a boneyard ..
Being I was going to build it into a 4L85, with a host of Hi-Po upgrades along the way of assembly, gave me the basics .
Got it on the teardown bench and soon seen that it's been rebuild recently .. That was a huge plus, although many parts was being replaced with the 4L85 parts .

Since I do powder coating in house, I thought what the @&# !!
Spent a bit of time prepping the casting for the powder ..
Then came the flood of Hi-Po parts ... I'm here to tell you that seems endless ..

This kit ^ was a must have ..
And .... Carbon-fiber bands, wide H-D sprag, H-D second apply piston and kolene steel plates ..

Oh Boy .. Here we go off the deep end ..

Started at the ass-end and worked up from there

Installed a "No Walk" bushing backwards in the case in order to rollerized the 4x4 output shaft using a Torrington bearing from a TH 350C pump ..
That was one of many places in the build that got rollerized ..
You didn't actually install that Transgo HD2 kit, did you?

I did ... Had a long chat with Trans Go rep ...
Too bad...hope you wont experience the cross leaks and premature applied element failures that are common with that rivited sandwich plate and/or experience a failure associated with their pressure relief mechanism.

You could have accomplished everything that kit does and more for less than $10 without all the associated risks that come with those parts.

I like Transgo's stuff for certain units but you can do everything you want with most GM transmissions without a shift kit...i realize you prob didnt know or would not be aware unless you're a professional trans builder but just keep it in mind for next time.

If you can find a crossmember from a pre ‘85 K30 you’d close up the gap between it and that adapter foot a lot.
Did find a aftermarket crossmember that will be the shi ... errrrr stuff !!

The Boys at "Tejas Steelworks" got it going on ..
(Rated at over a 1000 hp, I'm nowhere close to that)

This will require a difference mount which is available from "Energy Suspension" ..

Should net a really nice install ..

T case shifter is just about done ...
Trip to Ace for some hardware and then a test fit on the real McCoy ..

Transmission mount came in today ...
Well made, needing hardware for it too ..
I rethreaded the 4L80 adapter to 1/2" x 13 tpi which was the size the TH 400 used ..
A little work on the new mount was needed .. Most likely my mod was overkill ..

Hey ... "Overkill" might be a good name to hang on the "Binder"
Be a better name than it has now ..
Since the running gear is GMC and the body is a International Harvester, somehow the name that's been hung on it for years is GMC-IH ...
(Which stands for "Got-Mechanic-Coming-Ina-Hurry") Lol ..

T case shifter mount is about done ..
Powder coated and installed it ..
Made up the extended shift rods ..

Dang thing looks like it's going to work ..

Hadn't welded the extension to the shifter just yet, waiting for the crossmember to get here for a test fit ..

Edit; Jumped the gun.. Did install it without the crossmember, hopping that ain't going to come back and bite me in the ass ??
Do think that the trans is sitting really close to where it will be at when bolted down on the crossmember ..

Might see a need for a wee bit more dialing in .. ??

There's the shifter lever with the extension welded on ..
Got to saw a hole in the floor and patch the old hole ..
Does looks to be 6 inches forward from where it was at ..

Soon to see a shifter in the cab ..
Do think it's where i wanted it to be at..

Yep, nailed it ...

Stick is to low ..
In order to make it look like the trans shifter (Which its not) needs to be taller ..

Kind of liking this Hurst tall boy ..

Was hoping by doing one side it would work ..
Could have bolt it on, but would be right on the trans pan ..
Did the other side the same way ..

Much, much better ..
Although the shifter knob no longer looks like it belongs ..
Looked Ok with the short stick, looks out of place on the long ..

Thinking about a wood shift knob to match the dash and Caddy horn button ...

Making some spacers for dropping the trans/transfer case ..
The idea is to net a better driveshaft angle ..
Short wheelbase and being lifted don't go well together !
