Thanks for the pinouts guys. I've got some of the fuel out of the Burb now. Not taking it all at once and overheating the pump. I know someone said, it's no biggie cuz it's not under pressure, but YES, even just free pumping will overheat them and cause premature wear and burnout. Yep, I found out the hard way a couple times. :secret: I just don't wanna get one this one to tired and hope it works for awhile when and if the time comes I need it too.

Tank Shield

Does anyone make the shield or skid plate for this tank aftermarket or is it just a salvage yard find?

You're not talking about for a Rear Burb or Blazer tank are you? I don't think such a thing exists from the factory except a couple years on saddle tanks they tried something different to please the ambulance chasers.

I thought that I seen one before on a blazer but I cant remember now. I plan on doing the blazer tank in my crew cab and figured a shield wouldn't be a bad idea.

I think it would be a great idea. Might be something you have custom made. Do it good, you might even be able to sell some.

Tore apart a 1996 3/4 ton burb today at the yard, it had this skid plate on it. It had the 42 gallon tank but at least it gives me some idea of what they looked like. Have you ever seen one like this HotRodPC?

Nope, seems the ones I've see are plastic if my memory serves.

Those tank covers can be just as harmful as they are protective. I've seen small rocks get between the tank and the cover. The rock rattles and rubs on the tank until eventually you have a hole in your tank.

This one had a plastic shield that went in between the tank and metal skid plate, to keep rocks and things out is my guess.

Gas Filler Location

I know this post is a little old but i just got an 86 k10. I want to do this gas tank relocation but not the greatest when it comes to body work. HAs anyone done this using the license plate for the filler? If so what should i consider or what do i need to do this? Thanks for the help.

I have thought about it but have not done any meaningful research on it. I do know that you'd want a tank where the filler neck is at the license plate so a tank from a car like an old Camaro, early 90's B Bodies, many cars from the 70's,..... that'd be your starting point then it'd be about planning out how to mount it in the rear. I'm sure it's doable with just a little planning and mild fabrication work :)

Hey I haven't looked, but does the tank have to be changed out can I be moved toward the rear more? If I'm gonna have to lower the floor to put these seats in I'd like to make it easy as possible

The easiest way is to just get a blazer/burb tank and mount it back there

Ok thanks! Is it necessary to remove the bed to put the tank back there?
