Whats a 350 carb engine block worth that needs rebuilt?

I would like to get to the bottom of it, I have been told you CAN NOT interchange 305 and 350 cranks, due to balancing, and some say yes you can, then some say some years you can and some years you can't. So what is it and who wants to do the research to find the final answers. Mind you, there are some that have the same damn cast #, but you have to be able to determine which is a 305 crank and which is a 350 crank and do not mix them. So, we must be careul when buying a crank for our 350's that we are not getting a 305 crank. Or if you do, maybe you need to have the crank balanced for the motor you are putting it into. I also hear there could be a difference in the flywheel. So with all that confusing info, I'd like to know once in for all what is the truth and how do you tell them apart.

There is no difference in them.
They both have the Same Journal size
They both have the same flange
They both have the same stroke
They are both internally balanced rotating assemblies
They both use the same flywheel/flex plate

1986-97 305 and 350 cranks WILL interchange.

Are the Cranks the same on them?

Says 1968 truck 327 crank also fits.

1968 325-350hp 327 crank will also fit.

And 1968 327 and 307 will fit.

So what year did 305 come out? I know of 79 for sure they were available. But I am not a 305 guru, I'll just flat tell you. Never been concerned about them other than how much they weighed and how much I'm getting at the scrap yard. But if for sure the cranks will interchange, and I kow the rods do, I'll start pulling cranks before I scrap them. So we need to be sure. Obviously by Retro's info then, if they are the same casting # they will interchange then, cuz a 267 used a differant cast #. But that does not make sense either, or is it that 85 and older 305's will use only the 267 and 305 cranks, and the 86 up will use the same cranks as 350?

And to add, where this seems to be going is, TBI 350 and 305 Cranks interchange, but pre TBI, they do not. Does that seem to reason??? Manufactured in 86 would go into 87 TBI motor, and by 97 we are now into truck Vortec, but that does not mean some cars were using the 305 still.

Ok that all makes a little more sense now. You got it Pops??? Don't be picking up any 305 crank and putting it in a 350, its likley not to work out in the older school carbed motors. Thanks Retro, now got hang that damn plaid skirt up and put something else on before something slips out.

OK, I was thinking probably 78, but 77 sounds right too. Seems Camaro and Impalla might have been the first to get them.

hmm intresting they both have the same casting numbers but if you look at orillys they have different part numbers. i was always told they were the same journals and stroke damn now I really wondering what the difference is
