Do you have a ‘still? I don’t really drink much, but I’ve thought about braising a still to make alcohol from various excess fruit in the fall. It’d be a fun process, I think...

I posted about this a while back. Work schedule has kept me from playing with it much. It’s sweet to be able to adjust the hydraulic in-feed rollers. I dial it to where it chew the tree up just in time to gather more material. Here’s a quick video of me putting a tree through it.

Yeah, it’s pretty nice to have. It can handle up to 8” logs. I put a 6” piece of interior live oak in it and it did well. Normally, I’d save any oak over 3” for fire/barbecue wood, but I felt like testing it with something hard.

It chips logs and branches faster than I could burn them and the result is chips I can use for the garden.

I don't know what part of the country you are in, but here in N.E. Texas. People buy wood chippings for all kinds of things. Like you said...Garden, Fire starter, Smokers, I buy it to start our fire pit we have. My buddy buys it for his Granddaughters Hamster. One of my buddies wants to try and make saw dust logs, and he wants to use my 20 ton press to see if it can be done. (I see a big mess in my shop) LOL

We have a market saturation on chips due to so much tree work being done here. There’s a list you can put yourself on for free chip dumps. When a tree contractor has a full truck they check the list of nearby addresses where chips are wanted and dump them off for free rather than haul them 20+ miles into town to dump them.

Someone a few miles away has a full hugelkultur garden they’ve built on free chips and limbs.

I am not a professional mechanic but I do a lot of work on my stuff. The recent HF tools in the last 5 years or so are really good to me. I have stuff I have used pretty hard for years now and am very happy with them.

I am a professional mechanic, and I'll say this. About 3 or 4 years ago when HF came out with Hercules, and Bauer I had an ancient 14.4 volt cordless tool set on the farm that was old craftsman stuff and it was dieing, slowly tool died until all I had left was the drill and then it died. I was between day jobs at the time (that would be the mechanic), but the farm needs me to do stuff no matter what. I can't recall the project I was in the middle of anymore, but with not much money I went to Harbor Freight and bought a Bauer cordless drill. I picked Bauer over the Hercules simply because it was cheaper and I figured it would get me by until I could get something better. I still use that Bauer drill, plus I've added a hex driver, and a radio, and a couple extra batteries. I've built several small buildings with these tools, and even dropped the driver off my ladder on to concrete one day. Other than scuffs and the battery popped off it survived fine.

About two years ago I bought a 3/8" earthquake cordless impact from HF, that is at work and stays at work. It's been dropped, soaked in car fluids, and keeps coming back for more paid $150 for that one.

Yes I agree HF has some good stuff these days!

She is always trying to find me something I don't have, or she thinks it will make my life easier...Love her to death for that, but she does buy somethings that I will never use. I don't want to tell her that, and hurt her feelings. This I never really gave it a chance, but actually works really well, and will be using more often...They are thread cleaners. SAE, and Metric. There is a little wire wheel in the center, I use my cordless impact...and just run it in, and reverse it out. You can hold it in your hand, or like I do...put it in my vice. Doesn't make them pretty, but cleans up the threads like a new bolt.

I bought a rivet nut tool and rivet nutserts for my high hump install. Freaking awesome fasteners. Got them installed and now no reason to have to get under the truck if I need to remove it.

What happened was I would charge up and only 3/4 lights or 2/3 ( I can't remember how many there are) light would light up right of the charger. So batter was not showing full charge. This battery I have now I ha e used 5x more than the original without that issue. Pretty good life on it too, and it's just the small one it comes with. I have been debating getting the 3/8 bauer impact. Or the earthquake

425 shipped...it was on sale. It has cut everything I have put under it, fast and cool to the touch, and the blades are supposed to last 10x longer than the other type.

I bought the earthquake because it is suppose to be rated for professional use, and battery inner change doesn't matter since it's at work. For home I'd get the bauer so I could interchange batteries. FYI, I have 4 of the small bauer batteries all together. One for each, drill, driver, radio and one spare. When drilling and screwing (LOL can't help but laugh at that), anyhow when drilling and screwing I can keep all 4 going all day long with just one spare battery since they charge so quickly. My batteries still hold a good charge even after a few years of use.
