What new tools have you got lately?

I haven’t bought anything exotic but I did see a couple of socket sets I wanted on eBay so I grabbed them.

I’ve had a Mac 1/4” drive SAE kit forever and love it! It’s perfect for small interior jobs, etc. When I saw Mac offered 3/8” versions I picked up the SAE and metric sets. I guess I’ll be sniffing around for a 1/4” metric kit to complete the overall set and satisfy my need for uniformity. lol

The left side red kit is my original, the red boxes are SAE and yellow box is metric.

Oh yeah, I haven't seen a Mac truck in 15 years. In fact, I don't see Snap-On trucks like I used to. I don't turn wrenches by trade so I get most of my Snap-On & Mac off of eBay nowadays.

I debated between the Forney, the lotus, but I settled on the cut 50 s7.
ill be doing a frame notch and melting away some rivets later this week. mill be able to give a good summary of its capabilities.

Alright boys.. I cut the rivets off but haven’t notched the frame yet... lemme tell you I started this off with the grinder the other day... it was as slow as you’d expect and the grinder can’t get into the nooks and crannies.

The plasma performed as well as I expected... maybe a little better.
It is no Hypertherm but for a few hunnit, I’m not complaining At all. I chose this one over the Lotus due to the pilot arc.
YOU NEED to make an extension cord or plan on extending the ground clamp. This one is so short it’s a joke. I made up a 25 foot extension cord. I’ll take some more pics of what I got setup tomorrow during the notch.

I still have a few batteries around here that allow the fluid levels to be checked, but the squeeze bulb on my floating-disc type hydrometer rotted away. Saw this unit online and decided to give it a try. It has two rotating discs inside, one with the numbers and the other with a black line on it. You squeeze the black bulb to fill with fluid and the discs spin to indicate the charge level. It automatically compensates for temperature and doesn't need to be held exactly vertical like my old one. Made in Germany.

I had a craftsman when I was younger. I upgraded to the US General when I ran out of room and saw them on sale. I thought I’d just go in and look at them and if they were junk I’d pass. I’ve now had mine for close to 10 years and 3 different states. It’s a great toolbox and I’ve never managed to break anything on mine even with all the moves and heavy tools in it.

The the US General boxes are really hard to beat for the money. I picked one up at Harbor Freight a few years ago and I have been completely satisfied with it.

I recently got the HF 44” top & bottom set you are looking at and I’m really impressed by it. Big with nice roller drawers, blah blah stuff that you can get on a lot of brands. The thing I found different from a lot of non “pro” boxes was the depth of the drawer (front to back). Most of the Husky, Craftsman, etc are only about 17” deep where the HF boxes are 22”, this makes a huge difference in what / how much fits. With the drawers loaded and heavy they move smoother than my older Mac box.

Disclaimer: I’m not a mechanic by trade but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

Look at the HF icon series! they’re STOUT and RUNNING a 20% off RIGHT NOW.
I’m thinking about hangin the lockers off the side of my Matco boxes. Overall height of the locker would be about 4 inches taller than my Matco box/ hutch... so I’d have to order shorter casters to make the top level with the lockers so I can do a high mount cabinet if I desire.

If I decide against the icon series... I’ll hang the US general lockers on my Matco for now. But the quality of the two lines side by side is night and day.

Whenever I step up to a bigger box, it’ll most likely be an ICON box. Very similar quality to snap on at half the price
