Got the spread bore spacer in today. I'll get it on Saturday because we're going to see the documentary of led zeppelin in imax tomorrow night. Should be cool.

I added a test port valve (Actron brand) just after the fuel filter, in between the filter and the flex line. The flex line allows it to stay in place without any modifications. I put a cap on it to keep it clean and just left it in place. That way it is always there to use if I need to check the fuel pressure.
That’s what I was suggesting to @JamesSam. Seems like he’s going to hang on to the truck, so it’s worth it imo, especially since he has fuel issues and is sort of addressing them 1 thing at a time.

Walked past it a couple times and stared at it, then ordered a Walbro fuel pump. JEGS first e mail said my GM TBI adaptor has shipped and arrival would be today, I thought to myself: "That's f***** fast!", then I clicked the track package icon and Fed Ex doesn't even have it yet. Rain all day tomorrow, luckily my son has a basketball game going on, cloudy all day Sunday, and Monday night rain, then Tuesday rain in to snow. Wednesday, Thursday: rain. So waiting on parts and weather to test fuel pressure and swap tanks. I need to get the fuel hose, straps, anti squeak, and brackets ordered. I only want to order new because I think trying to refurbish my existing "Bracketryyy" will take too long.

@TotalyHucked Zach, do you recommend AMD brackets, straps, and anti squeak kits? I want to support our passion through the community. It looks like AMD has all the remaining peices to my puzzle. Give me some insight.

Kinda forgot about the PO heater mess but rediscovered while fitting the dash. What should this look like without the 200 mph tape?

back when I had the saddle tanks, I used thin silver bubble wrap (insulation) for tank anti-squeak. You can also use bicycle rubber and roofing tar paper as well.

Just a thought.

[edit] quoted wrong post....anyway.

When I had saddle tanks I used the silver bubble wrap (insulation) for anti-squeak. You can also use large bicycle tubes or roofing tar paper.

Just a thought.

Ordered. Rain for days through the weekend in to next week then possibly snow. Hopefully when it arrives it will be good truck resto weather. Damn Punksatawny Phil.
My wife and I just watched Groundhog Day with our kids for the first time tonight. Such an awesome movie. I think I saw it with my Mom and Dad at least 3 times in the theater when it came out.

Funny, all these years and I had never seen the movie. The wife and I watched it for the first time on Groundhog day after we got back from Punxutawney.

Apparently only a couple of thousand people used to show up to see Phil, but after the movie came out it ballooned to 30-40K people.

Definitely something to see once in your life. But once is enough.

At the risk of sounding negative, I’ve heard or gleaned a bit about budget with your truck, but now you’re buying parts that you haven’t even removed yet and from the pics earlier, look to be just fine.
New brackets and straps are only $75-100 per tank but what makes you think you need them?
Refurbish? That’s 15min with a wire wheel, clean them and a $4 worth of Rustoleum spray paint.
Again, not trying to be negative but you’re now buying multiples of the same part when you havent diagnosed the bad part (pump/switch/wiring/??) and buying other parts that you dont know are bad.
Again tough to follow but does the tank even leak or ?
All in the interest of trying to save you $ and extra work.
A more thought out approach than stockpiling for the parts cannon approach may help.
Or more succinctly, based on your pics and my assumption that your seemingly very shiny good condition truck isn’t a bondo buggy, I doubt the need for new bracket assemblies. And still not sure what to think about the pump situation.
If I missed the part where the bolts rusted in and snapped off in the brackets and the straps are rotted out, apologies.

I get ahead of myself. I am stockpiling to start a project that to me will improve the life of the truck. Yes it's true, I really don't know the exact problem but I assume, guilty. One of the first big projects I thought needed to be re-done was gas tanks but always was intimidated by the job from the physical act itself to the sticker shock of seeing what the cost is to pay someone to do this. Then the drivers tank died on me and now the truck is not running right and my mind circles back to the big things that will need to be taken care of.

The plan now is:
-Fuel pressure test the working tank to get numbers on paper. We will see what happens next from the outcome of the test, but I am guessing it will be weak and that will lead me to take off the old tank and check it out. A new tank will go on regardless one side or the other.
-If the pump is crap: new pump, new tank and I hope it works. If it's in good shape but the filter was clogged or something then I will keep it for possibly the other side.
-If the fuel pressure test shows the pressure is good then maybe we re-visit the catalytic converter. A new one will be put on at some point regardless.

Hopefully these steps will correct what is wrong and if not I hope I learn something in the process for what the problem could be.

I am not a mechanic and don't really have the workspace or time to do all the stuff I want when I want to so I have to bide my time. I hate this part the most. I want instant success but just have to wait it out and keep trying.

Along the way if it all caves then I guess I will take it to a mechanic that can hopefully help. I sure would like to be able to figure it out on my own though.

Trying to stay positive.
