Tell her new tanks are a big step to reliability and not having to replace fuel filters every 500 miles or less (if your old tanks are that bad).

Which is not untruthful.

In my opinion, for these older vehicles using steel tanks, if they are available and of reasonable cost, it’s the better option that trying to run a nasty tank, or attempt to clean it, or seal it.

Especially on a squarebody with how available and reasonable new tanks are.

Well.. this truck sat parked since 2006 with fuel in it..
So I think new tanks are practically a requirement. ;)
But I definitely will play the reliability card as well. I mean, we do live on the outskirts of town.. Dont want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Take a look at the pic posted by @Strick on the previous page. That truck is a long bed but the connections are definitely under the bed on that truck. I believe it is an '87 also.
Yes sir @Redfish, that is an '87. It doesn't look as good as that cream puff of yours though. I'm getting there though. Is there someone needing pics of the sender or taillamp harness while I have it apart? Let me know if so and I'll get some.

Y'all are bad influences.. all this tank talk..

Just placed an order for 2 new ones.

How do I tell my wife what I've done?
I don't know how YOU would handle it but I know how I would handle it.

Something like...

"Your clothes and food budget just took a hit, I ordered some stuff that I need for My Truck. When it arrives don't let the package(s) sit on the front porch. You can take a break from your cleaning and go put the boxes in the bed of The '87. Then get back to cooking supper like a Good Girl."

You can earn extra points by starting off the conversation with "Look here b**ch!" but only if you can say it with a confident and commanding voice. A wife will sense weakness and at that point you have no way to win.

I could use pics of the sender harness. This spring, I will be attempting to pull the longbed off, replace sender on drivers side 20gal stock tank, add secondary passenger side 20gal tank, and replace the axle with a FF axle I picked up last summer because my diff gears are all chewed up. Any photos to familiarize ahead of time will be helpful. Thanks @Strick

I'll get you some pics of the fuel sender here in a few minutes. I'll just post them on this thread instead of DM.
* If the 14FF is from a 20 it should bolt directly in. If it's from a 30 the spring pads and shock mounts are different. Give it a spy before diving in.
