Cranked mine up two days ago to back it out so I could clean up smy hop.
Cranked it up to pull it back in the shop and it is now making a terrible noise.
I'm guessing dropped, broken valve or rocker arm or all of the above.
Hope I'm wrong.
When I relax & get my info together, I'll call Blueprint.
Engine has 1,600 miles on it and I know it hasn't been over about 3,500 RPMs.

I will be very sad if I have to pull this engine out and/or take the heads off.............

Drove the 84 to work today. Nice and cool in the morning but back up in the 90's on the way home. Good Ole Texas weather for ya. Nice to jam the new system with subwoofer box. There was a bit of a break between songs then gobsmack love/hate/sex and pain came on and made me jump. Scared me and I just started laughing at the stop light. People were probably like Wtf. Lol

Took the truck out for coffee and a cruise around town this morning. Found a slow antifreeze leak around the lower radiator hose where it connects to the radiator. Probably from when I couldn’t find a 1.75” hose when I bought the Cold Case rad, and expanded it with a little heat. They had sworn that “some big block trucks used 1 3/4 at both ends” to justify selling a radiator with that size lower outlet- but if they did, they’re obscure or rare. I did find a hose listed that’s obscure that fits that spec for our trucks- the ephemeral Continental 61176, the rest are all 1.5” at the lower rad outlet. We’ll see if is actually that when it arrives. If not, I’ll have to either wrap more hose around the existing hose and clamp it, or fabricate my own with a mid-hose adapter. Oh well, it’s good enough for now and not a major leak, so staying close and keeping an eye on it is fine with me until the hose arrives this week and/or I come up with another permanent fix.

Finally bought a new fuel tank and sending unit. My truck came with an '87 fuel tank (installed by PO) that was meant for fuel injection and has plastic baffles on the bottom. With a normal sending unit, the float comes down until it rests on the baffles like a ship on a reef -- meaning the gauge gets down to 5/8 of a tank and stops there.

(I only figured this out thanks to a forum member who saw a pic looking into the tank and clued me in. Thanks!)

Anyway, I had shopped tanks but the shipping had been outrageous. Jegs had this (and tank straps) with normal shipping costs. Now let's see when I get it installed...; - }

My roommate hauled the several large boxes up the stairs so I bought us a pizza:

Don't know if it's too late but run an air hose from the craftsman to the grizzly tank,run your tools,paint gun off the grizzly tank. Recovery time will be big but your spray time will increase a ton.
New switch assy from Tractor Supply got it running. (Most of that style are made by the same company, no matter what the packaging says. This one is "Porter Cable" for example.) Mega sent me a new switch and motor under warranty, so now I have spares, but the long term fix will be upgrading the switch entirely.

Hey.... at least it's still September :p but DANG is this taking longer than I thought. I WAS hoping to cut out of work early tomorrow and get color on the Burb, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen. :( Got the new cowl hood fitted yesterday, and the wife stripped it this morning, so the epoxy is flashing off on it right now. The whole body, with the exception of the barn doors is blocked out/wet sanded and basically ready for paint.

Went to hang the "new" barn doors, since I got a different set due to ours having some bad cancer at the top and bottom. (dang that seal seems to be designed to trap dirt and moisture) Lets just say..... they're on there, but they don't quite fit. lol So here I am, about to search the forum for whatever lore there is to adjusting them. I'm dreading what I suspect, that I need to bend the hinges to get them to sit right.

Other than that, and selling the 1st born to LMC (and probably another vendor or two) so I can source a bunch of parts I'll need to put it all back together nicely...... it's going GREAT. :oops: Wife wants to lose the silver stripe, so it's gonna be ALLLLL Red, or Victory Red rather. I wanted to do it in single stage, because keeping dust off a fresh clear coat is just NOT happening........ but finding a decent single stage locally is proving difficult. The local Wesco guys were pushing BC/CC and HARD. Told me single stage is "old technology, that nobody uses anymore". :rolleyes: So that's something else I gotta figure out tomorrow.

So the wife's cool with selling off the first born,but wants to get picky about a silver stripe. Hmm I don't know how to read this. Where's Dr.Phil when you need him.
She wanted to leave the hood black, and maybe paint the dually fenders black (when I get around to THAT addition). Talked her out of that, but lets just say we have different tastes when it comes to style. One color is less work for me, so I'm not complaining.

Looks like it has self aligning rockers and shouldn't need guide plates. I'd want to know why this happened.

Looks like it has self aligning rockers and shouldn't need guide plates. I'd want to know why this happened.
Rick those heads have big carved out areas in the middle (not every push rod has a smaller hole).
Allows the push rod to move around as opposed to a smaller hole to keep it straighter.
Just my three mechanic friends and my opinion. I'll post what Summit/BP tells me.

Got tired of catching my clothes on the OE trim clips so I pulled all those off today. Brought the potato out for another look, it's none too happy about any of that. Looks like summer got away without much forward progress. Damn.
