Looks a lot worse in person. Earl Scheib paint job. Painted door panels and dash that has had it. But thank you.
Mine is still wearing the original paint. It looks pretty good from a little distance but is pretty rough when you get close.

Reminds me of almost every woman I ever dated... :cool:

Got the old rebuilt starter on the 84 today. Cranks over real good but drags a bit. Looks like I'll have to put some shims on it. That's for tomorrow it's beer 30 now. Plus seems as if it sits for a couple of weeks it doesn't like to fire up without some help from pouring in some gas or starter fluid. I don't like edelbrock carbs. The ones I've had were pos anyway. He might get a new quadrajet on him. We'll see.

Sucks because it didn't have shims on it when I pulled it. Maybe the new armature and bushings tighten up the clearance idk. Lol

Today I solved the aforementioned problem of column shift linkage interference with new headers. The universal adjustable linkage kit from Shiftworks is a high quality product but instalation requires numerous trips underneath, measure, take it off, heat it, bend it, check it and repeat until you get it right. But now, problem solved.

Installed my mallory fuel pressure regulator which was sitting on a shelf for some months. Was on sale for 69$ instead of 169$ at summit.

Didn't do much for a while, Mrs has been having health problems, they discovered no platelets in her blood.
I've started back in, new 31s from Les Schwab yesterday and a clean bill of health for brakes, steering and suspension, which is mind blowing as the tires they replaced were installed in '07 and it sat for a good long time after that and I only replaced the drag link. Drives much better now.
Also working on pulling the interior from the second row back so I can repair the rockers and other small patches of rot. First time doing any sheet metal and 10 years since I welded anything, but you only live once.
Had to fight the seat belt bolts - tried penetrating oil, heat, a big breaker bar, big impact and only succeeded in deforming several T50 sockets and throwing tools like a three year old. Took a drill to the driver side one and, even after drilling, still had to unscrew it with channel locks. I won, but at what cost?! :))
Also been planning how I want to approach fixing the beast up. Looking at trying to fit or fabricobble an 88-94 dash and door panels (heavily modded), 4 captains chairs for the interior. Going to buy an 07 or newer Yukon or similar at the salvage auction and steal the powertrain, electronicals, maybe a bunch of other bits like the hvac system. $5000 for a 383 from Blueprint, or $5000 for a half decent 6.0, transmission, all the modules, fuel system and yada, yada. Seems like a no brainer, plus I can drive the donor while I take the Suburban apart.

Got the driveshaft out, wiring unhooked, lines unhooked, trans drained, headers and linkage removed and trans out. Of course when the pan dropped, it made a mess and a lot missed the drain pan lol

Got the motor mostly stripped of its harness, plug wires and intake. Just gotta drain the coolant and remove the accessory drive and it’s ready to come out.

As I was installing them I thought that I could not remember the last time I ordered brake pads and was offered Raybestos. Not sure when the last time was I saw new riveted pads either. Anyone know if Raybestos still around?

I don't see the brand around anymore, so I wonder if they are primarily manufacturing house brands like "napa" branded brakes or O'rielly's "masterpro". I might have to research that a little at work.

don't be afraid to lower the fuel pressure to 3-4 psi and raise as necessary, Eddy's like to waste gas.

Confirmed the speedometer cable was making noise was going to pull it out and lube it up then seen it melted near the exhaust sounded like a siren/squeaking so bad I thought the drive line was going to fall out of this thing

PO put an edelbrock on my truck which is otherwise stock. While personally I'd rather have the Q-jet. I installed a pressure regulator and replaced the enrichment rods and springs to be a touch richer. The edelbrock has 6 years, with me and I'd have to get out my maintenance book and look but I think we are getting close to 100,000 miles in that time. Other than having to clean and lubricate the choke shaft a couple times it's been a good carb. Anyhow I run 3.5 PSI on my regulator and that's worked out really well for me.

Getting prepped for next plow season. While repairing and painting the body I decided to remove the running boards. They were a safety hazard with snow covered boots. Still needed a step to assist the climb in.
Came up w/ this. A piece of perforated plate and some angle. Right now its spring loaded, just need to design a cocking mechanism. Stores under the body and pops out. Thru on the cowboy grab for looks & comfort.
