Started the fab work for my AC to non-AC swap. Might as well do it whilst the motor is out. Ignore the welds, still trying to master my new-ish welder. You don't have to be the best welder, just a really good grinder

That reminds me- my wife is always asking me what I want for Father’s Day and my birthday (often they fall on the same day). I’m gonna pick out a cheap welder for the list this year.

Looks pretty good IMHO. And I’d like to do that myself- tired of looking at that disconnected box in the engine bay just hanging out there and have no interest in reinstalling A/C at any time.

Put a new castle nut on the drag link after almost hitting another car head on.

Was taking the truck to go pull an engine trans for my wifes suburban and the steering was feeling a little sloppy. I assumed it was the steering gear going out, because its been leaking bad lately. Well, get about a mile from the house and go through a pretty sharp s-turn. Thankfully I was going pretty slow, because It was a bit slow to respond to enter the first turn and then when I went to turn the other way I got no response at first. Car coming the other way through that part of the S so I yanked the steering wheel over hard about 1/4turn and it finally caught and turned just enough to miss the other car.

Turned around and creeped home, changed my underwear, and then looked under the truck. The ball joint that connects the drag link to the steering arm was almost completely out of the steering arm. The castle nut and cotter pin where nowhere to be seen. It was just caught on the very end of the ball joint threads with none of the threads visible under the arm

So I dug around in my shop and found a locking nut(couldn't find any extra castle nuts around) that fit on there and tightened it on, then went and finished pulling the 6.2/6l80 out and stopped off at the parts store to get a replacement castle nut on the way home. Swapped it out the next day and made sure it was TIGHT with a good new cotter pin in it. Also inspected all the other connections to make sure the cotter pins were present and the castle nuts were tight.

Yeah, i haven''t been the biggest with AC on these units. And since this is a K5, i'm probably going to have the cap off 99% of the time; won't be needing AC. Plus i want to get all of the extra clutter out of my engine bay. My investment was the Hobo Freight MIG 170 Professional Welder with 120/240V Input. I had a super coupon and just got the credit card, ended up getting it for a little over $400. Not a bad little rig, I'd recommend.

I also did turn signal lights on my mirrors, fog lamps with a brush guard and electric booster fuel pump. Also 1970s dash emblem on the billet trim.

Checked for vacuum leaks, redid some vacuum line connections, checked timing, replaced fuel filters, and adjusted the mixture on the carb. No difference in the current situation. More diagnostics in my future.

I can vouch for this one, it kicks ass. And I got a spool gun for it for aluminum too. Had it for about 4 years now, paid for itself already. And it runs off 120V. I have it on a welding cart from Home Depot.

Today I repainted the white letters on a couple tires that were faded, and installed the tailgate pad so I can take the kid mountain biking. I prefer the look of the truck without the pad, but it’s easily removed.

I have been seeing these blankets on tailgates the last couple of years. I thought they were a joke, you know, because I only see them on new trucks and new trucks have wimpy sheet metal compared to these older models. Figured the tailgate needed a banky to keep warm or something. Seeing your bikes on there makes sense. It's a tailgate bike banky.

Took mine out for date night with my wife. It always shocks her at how well a 45 year old truck rides. Bench seats sure are fun when your lady gets to snuggle up next to you when you're cruising.

You PAINT your white letters? When I did vehicle detailing we would just spray them with a heavy degreaser and scrub hard with a stiff bristle brush. The white is embedded in the rubber and not a paint, so a good scrub makes them look brand new. Same thing actually when they are new from the shop, they will have like a blueish type protective stuff on them. Quick spritz with degreaser and a scrub will have them looking brand new and bone white.
