You PAINT your white letters? When I did vehicle detailing we would just spray them with a heavy degreaser and scrub hard with a stiff bristle brush. The white is embedded in the rubber and not a paint, so a good scrub makes them look brand new. Same thing actually when they are new from the shop, they will have like a blueish type protective stuff on them. Quick spritz with degreaser and a scrub will have them looking brand new and bone white.

Tried it! Nothing worked. Simple Green, brake clean, nothin. Dull/dark tan.

I have been seeing these blankets on tailgates the last couple of years. I thought they were a joke, you know, because I only see them on new trucks and new trucks have wimpy sheet metal compared to these older models. Figured the tailgate needed a banky to keep warm or something. Seeing your bikes on there makes sense. It's a tailgate bike banky.

Haha! Yeah, keeps the grit from the dirty tires and frames from beating up the tailgate and also helps protect our expensive bike frames and forks from the hard metal. I suspect a lot of dudes and dudettes leave them on just to signal “I’m a mountain biker!” but I’m taking mine off in the in-between time.

Perhaps, but some these dudes/dudettes don't look like they can ride a bicycle more than 20 feet without having a heart attack.

How old are the tires?

I've always just used soapy water and a red scotch brite pad. Makes them look new. But sometimes the white rubber in ancient tires simply becomes discolored.

Date code says 2015. So they’re getting up there but the rubber is still very pliable and no cracks- looks like someone pasted them with some nasty stuff at one point and it really attracted a lot of dirt. It’s one of the reasons I don’t use really greasy stuff like Black Magic anymore. FWIW, they’re a little too bright for me- but the difference between the new Cobras I have on the front and the older ones was too much, and I only replaced the fronts to go with a smaller size for the upcoming lowering. I might try again with what you and @Bextreme04 suggested. But they were really dark tan, almost brown. Thanks you guys for the suggestions

Used Bleche Wite since I was a kid… but I do like the magic eraser idea. I need to try that

My whitewalls are still blue, and turned inside so you don't see em.

How did you paint them?

most people do. just gotta weigh your options. me, i'm gonna have my cap off most of the time and i want the space in my engine bay. that's just me.

It does defeat the purpose when the look at me wanna be adventurers (you know who I’m talking about. Same dudes that have $20k of bolt on “overlanding “ accessories rusted onto their Jeep or Taco, parked in I-5 bumper to bumper traffic.

Like the old car bras. Leave ‘em on a while until a little dirt and grit gets under them and you have an instant $200 piece of sandpaper attached to your tailgate! Hahaha fckin tools!
