Well, not a Square but it is a Chevy truck. Fabbed a Quick Performance axle flange onto the ONLY Ford part on the truck...a 9" rear.

I put a few pieces of firewood in it and then I messed up Pop's yard. I suppose I need to go wash the mud off of it and out from under it but it so seldom looks like an actual working 4wd that I have left the mud on it for now.

After a 12 hour shift i was finally on my way home last night in the '87 dump. That is until what i believe the motor blowing on the side of the interstate. 4 hours and $715 later i finally made it home. Damage doesn't look too bad yet, nothing visible surprisingly. Loud gun shot pops, check engine light and stalled. Cranks but will not start. Checked the obvious, everything seemed fine. And of course my flash light died. Had to fight the tow company to take it to my house instead of their shop, but now its home in the shop ready for work. Hell of day.

HEALTH UPDATE:

Figured out my broken down '87 TBI 350 dump today. The next day i thought about it all day at work, put together the obvious and started at the ignition system due to symptoms. Ends up, the ignition coil AND the distributor failed. After i had swapped a new/used distributor in and swapped the known good coil in from the Jimmy temporarily, she started right up. My dad couldn't stop laughing. So that's good. She lives to fight again!

Thinking of using these for backup lights. They're not as bright as I'd hoped. I'm still waiting on the led headlights too so I guess we'll see how it works with those installed.

I put on the insulated layers for the weather and finished the front brakes.

Then I got to work removing the diff cover, cleaning the surfaces, putting on the gasket with some goop and refilling with some AMSoil. I’ll ignore that the rear end gearing is a 2.73. Move along now….

Next was the attempt to replace a broken Scottsdale fender emblem. But apparently that will take some work- I unbolted the fenderwell and the splash guard underneath. Looks to be well-hidden. Oh well, another day.

So then, I started on the bed rails. Not bad.

It’ll be a patina truck for now. Digging it.

And it’s good to see the wiring cleaned up and the gauges functional.

Thanks for reminding me to sign up with AAA again for towing!
We got a couple old beaters in the fleet now. The blue truck which isn’t a daily but driven regularly and sons 01 Tahoe which gets 400-500 miles a week on it pounding through Seattle traffic.

Don’t go digging for the backside of those emblems….unless you want to tear half the truck apart and be frustrated. Lol
I’d carefully pry it out. If the studs break you can super glue them back on or just stick the emblem back on.
If you need a shim to “grab” the studs in the fender holes for reinstall. Someone here showed me @idahovette I think some little spring clips to use. Found them at the local hardware store. Couldn’t tell you what they’re called but they’re cylindrical and flip into the holes to grab the plastic stud.

Yep, I found that out. I looked online and they are really hard to get out without taking the whole entire fender off. So I bought some emblem glue at the store this morning, and I found the old Scottsdale emblem hidden in the glove box. I’m just gonna stick it back on and roll with it for now. Good advice!

@ChuckN what @Grit dog ,Todd was referring to was "barrel nuts". Used to be very common in the body shop world, not so much now, with all the plastic "stuff".....
Those were key! I’d just overpaid for a couple emblems to cover up the holes I wished I’d welded shut, after the fact. Then they wouldn’t stick in the holes and I was not wanting to have to pile up double sided tape and stick them on!

Had to make a tab for the '84 grille. Made it from a salvaged piece of plastic from my 02 Silverado headlight(seemed fitting), but it broke off when I went to drill it. Sooo, I made another tab from a plastic clipboard and predrilled the hole, lol. I also have found the closest off the shelf match yet to the grille color. Rustoleum Dark Steel. Sheen will be off, but if it irks me I can knock it down with some satin clear.
