I agree, the new reproduction dumbos are $27 each, so they are more than twice the price. I probably won't get them given the cost and my mirrors are in good shape and are OE GM units, vs if I had to bet the reproduction units probably aren't as good a quality. But heat would be handy at times.

@SirRobyn0 @AyWoSch Motors i'm just a little worried that under the bracketry or mounting points there may be some slight rust or scuffs, something a flller plug, carriage bolt won't be able to cover. Like i said, had it been a beater truck and had a patina or something, i wouldn't think twice.

Well the only way you'd know is to remove the old mirrors and look. If you have the time you could always remove them ahead of time and check. Ya, I understand your concern. My truck is 40 year old original paint. It's a work truck, it's far from perfect, but she still shines up and is pretty much rust free, but still I wouldn't want to add any marks to it. I get it.

In the end, it’s about how much bodywork you have to do to cover up any damage from the towing mirrors.

When you need it, it's worth twice the price. I didn't realize that was available since I haven't gone that far down the rabbit hole procuring parts, yet. I am going to check into a set, thanks for pointing it out.

SO i've been pushing this around for a while now, but was always hesitant. Pretty much ever since i got my truck, i wanted to swap the mirrors on it to the famous basic Square Body mirrors. Now yes, i understand that my mirrors were most likely factory for the Camper Special package and it is quite special but i'm over it. I want to do it just like my brother's truck, who already has the mirrors i want, but there are some things holding me back. I think it really comes down to "the curse of having a super clean truck". If it was patinaed and worn, yeah i would do it in a heartbeat. But here, there will most likey be slight surface rust or imperfections under the mirror hardware. And all the extra holes. really wouldn't be able to get away with it unless i ended up doing some work and repainting the entire doors, if not truck. I think it may be far-fetched and out of reach to change the mirrors. Any possible thoughts?

The second pic is my all time fave squarebody mirror! I love the field of view they give! The "dumbos" are a close second. After that id rather go mirrorless lol my truck was (is) factory tow mirror. Old pic of after i first got it, shows my factory in bed spare too!

Last couple things I did a few weeks ago..installed a Redhead steering box and a new xj steering shaft. Steers so much better. Scrolled through all the posts I've missed here and y'all are keeping up the good work!

I have some torn skin on my doors to address from these mirrors but for a working truck I like 'em. Heat would be handy...

Charged the battery up as it has a slow leak.
It could only muster enough juice to spin past one cylinder and got stuck on the next compression cycle.

We took it for a wash.
It is amazing how dirty they get just sitting outside.

We switched from the camper special mirrors to the dumbos and it is a day and night difference driving the truck around.
No more worrying about clobbering those things in a parking lot and the dumbos are way easier to see out of for normal driving.

Now my paint is way different than yours, so we just pulled them off and plugged the holes with simple carriage bolts.

Got the 88 Tailgate (that's our nickname for it since my 88 burb has rear barn doors) dash tore apart and disassembled the rear guts of the tailgate. Went ahead and ordered lots of parts for anything needing replaced while the dash and steering are apart. You know things like..speakers, radio, fan controls, turn signal switch, cruise control, tilt and shift knobs, couple of new vents, and interior lighting bulbs. You're welcome Amazon and LMC :D

For me, dumbos, paddles, California, C70 style, then tow mirrors.
